(San Diego) Mayor vetos minimum wage hike
Source: UT San Diego
Mayor Kevin Faulconer on Friday rejected a hike in the citys minimum wage, vetoing the legislation and starting the clock on a likely council override and another step toward a looming referendum drive against any increase in base pay.
This ordinance unfairly pits working families and our city against economic realities that will make it even harder for San Diego to thrive, Faulconer said. I cannot support putting the brakes on our economy.
The City Council earlier this summer voted 6-3 along party lines Democrats in favor and Republicans against in favor of City Council President Todd Glorias proposal to raise the minimum wage to $11.50 an hour within the next three years.
Gloria vowed Friday to override Faulconer.

(16,286 posts)So that we can compete with other countries.
If we would be willing to give up benefits, overtime pay requirements, government controlled safe working environs (OSHA) and more, we could be competitive.
The entire teaparty and most of the republican party are working day and night to create a completely unregulated working environment in America, they seem to know more about this than any liberal commie.
Now sure, liberal commies did create all this nonsense, safe work places, overtime, vacation pay, work comp, etc.
Liberal commies worked for and demanded collective bargaining rights, but you see these are why we are not competitive.
The typical corp is REQUIRED by corp charter to make as much profit as possible no matter who it harms, what it harms, etc.
Stop whining and get to work...
(want to fix the problem? make the existence of corps which have as their goal to maximize profits, illegal in USA)
