Women Stoned to Death in Syria for Adultery

Source: AP via ABC News

A cleric read the verdict before the truck came and dumped a large pile of stones near the municipal garden. Jihadi fighters then brought in the woman, clad head to toe in black, and put her in a small hole in the ground. When residents gathered, the fighters told them to carry out the sentence: Stoning to death for the alleged adulteress.

None in the crowd stepped forward, said a witness to the event in a northern Syrian city. So the jihadi fighters, mostly foreign extremists, did it themselves, pelting Faddah Ahmad with stones until her body was dragged away.

"Even when she was hit with stones she did not scream or move," said an opposition activist who said he witnessed the stoning near the football stadium and the Bajaa garden in the city of Raqqa, the main Syrian stronghold of the Islamic State group.

The July 18 stoning was the second in a span of 24 hours. A day earlier, 26-year-old Shamseh Abdullah was killed in a similar way in the nearby town of Tabqa by Islamic State fighters. Both were accused of having sex outside marriage.

Our "friends" the Saudis have been supporting the militants fighting the Assad regime in Syria...and that includes ISIL! Makes me wonder who is providing ISIL with the training to use armor and artillery that they've taken from the Iraqi Army?

They actually buy houses and cars and do things in their jobs like we do. There are plumbers and electricians and doctors and office workers and cops and firemen,...need I go on?

Oh,...and not ALL of them are devoted to a religion. A lot of it is like here where America is described as "Christian" but most people don't attend church. Hell, most don't even know where their local church is at and CERTAINLY can't tell you the name of the pastor.

The media likes to make like 100% of the people over there are devout just like they like to pretend all of America spends every Sunday dressed up surrounded by stained glass.

In support of your view, I think that one reason why Europe is less warlike than the US is because Europe was devastated by WWI and WWII, while the US was not. Getting devastated by war has a tendency to make people less warlike.

The Palestinian Arabs have a very modified and downright civilized form of Shari'a in which anyone who repents is spared the worst official punishment, although "shamed" patriarchal fathers and/or brothers occasionally do "honor" killings, something that is illegal.

I've always found them the most approachable of the bunch, although Saudis do know how to turn on the charm if they've been to school outside the country.

The ones who have flocked to Europe looking for work aren't the educated ones and they've tried to bring their own savagery into regions they think are barbaric for allowing women such relative freedom.

The best thing we can do is declare victory, leave, put the military on a diet, and work out how to get along without fossil fuel we don't produce.

list as well, no?

According to Human Rights Watch, from January to September 2012, at least 69 people were executed in Saudi Arabia. Another 10 beheadings have been reported in just the first six weeks of 2013.

Beheadings are imposed mainly for murder or drug offences, but cases of apostasy (renunciation of one's faith), sorcery and witchcraft can also end up in Chop Chop square. Indeed a man named Muri' al-'Asiri was executed last year in the southern town of Najran, as punishment for being a sorcerer.

Lashing is carried out as the main or additional punishment for a wide range of offences, and can be imposed on men, women and juveniles. In 2011 a 13-year-old school girl convicted of assaulting a teacher was sentenced to 90 lashes, carried out in front of her classmates. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/saudi-arabia-chop-square-beheading-453240

Our 20 years of war in Iraq have only made the situation worse.

But since it's not Muslims, we just call it "domestic violence" or "violence against women" - only Muslims ever gt the appellation "honor killing" - even though the mentality is identical in all of this; "Woman dares, woman dies."

I despise religious fundamentalists.
Unfortunately there seems to be more and more in every society.

In fact I would posit that the increasing religious bent to many of the world's societies is a symptom of the decline in civilization.
Where religion is on an ascendent, morality declines and a society is rotted from within.

I'm not a student of sharia law and I don't know. First, if the man contributed to the woman's adultery and the estrangement of affections of the woman from her own family, why wouldn't the man be seen as complicit? If the man was also married, would he also be stoned? I don't think I've ever heard of a man being stoned, but then I'm not a follower of this type of law.
