Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, whos trailing in the too-close-to-call Hawaii Democratic Senate primary against incumbent Brian Schatz, warned Monday of voting irregularities in precincts crippled by a massive tropical storm last week and said shes speaking with campaign lawyers about a potential recourse.
There are irregularities that have occurred in terms of just access, and Im hoping that the Office of Elections will look at it, Hanabusa told POLITICO in a phone interview on Monday.
Although much of the focus in the wake of this past Saturdays primary has been on two precincts in the Big Islands Puna District home to some 8,200 registered voters where polls were closed Saturday because of the storm and residents will soon cast their ballots by mail, Hanabusas comments indicate for the first time that shes examining the impact in surrounding communities as well, where polls were open but some voters were unable to leave their homes.
Weve got a lot of people coming up to us saying, We couldnt get out to vote but they didnt close us down, she said. We have a lot of people who are talking about the election because they felt in fact they were disenfranchised.

The governor who appointed her opponent, though, he's out.

Colleen Hanabusa is more for corporations over people.
Hopefully, David Ige, the new Dem candidate can win in November or else Hawaii's Gay Marriage Law which Gov Abercrombie helped get through will be tossed by the tea-publicon candidate.

(135,425 posts)And, assuming Schatz prevails (they say he will), will he win in November?
Cha
(297,110 posts)he's been in the Hawai'i legislature for 26 years and I read he voted for all the right things. He's probably not as well known as the repub who ran last time against Abercrombie in 2010.. but, he has some time.
I think whomever wins the Dem Senate nom will win in November.. I really hope Brian Schatz does.. who is saying "he will"?

(22,000 posts)to get extra voting days?
Both candidates are having to raise extra money now to get through the last bit of the primary.
The longer the whole thing is drawn out, the more nervous we should be about the GE. Hopefully it will be over next week.

I've read it could take weeks.. but, we shall see. My fingers are crossed for Brian Schatz.. the Progressive candidate of the two.
