WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. budget deficit was $95 billion at the end of July, down 3 percent from the same period last year, according to data released by the Treasury Department on Tuesday.

Analysts polled by Reuters had expected a $96 billion deficit for last month. The deficit was $98 billion in July of 2013.

The fiscal year-to-date deficit at the end of July was $460 billion, the lowest level since the same period in fiscal year 2008, compared with a deficit of $607 billion for the same period in fiscal year 2013, according to Treasury’s monthly budget statement.

Last month’s budget results were affected by differences in the calendar. If adjusted for timing-related transactions, the budget deficit in July would have been $86 billion.

1. If I was Supreme Leader I'd just take the whole bill out of the Koch brothers' wealth, LOL.

They'd still have several billions left and a great cash flow onward that could go untouched, so long as they didn't keep on adding to the deficit.
As it is, they get millions in subsidies paid by the tax payers every year.

But it might make 'em able to 'feel our pain' for a few moments, or let them reach their utopia of no government in their lives so long as they stay out of ours. Otherwise, they are nothing but the biggest parasites ever.

I'd reform the tax code afterwards and do some good things like we did in the seventies. Heck, without the debt, we might not even need all of that to keep people free and alive. But no one has offered the job yet, sad to say. I'm not sure this is going to happen. Save your applause until later.

2. It would be great to take all of the Koch money

However, that would only provide us money for a year. Then what?

Never fails.

Soros has nothing on the Kochs, whose tentacles reach even small towns in America.

I wish that I could wear rose colored glasses but there is reality to take into consideration.

6. If I read correctly, the total debt is about 5X that. Their 'ilk' could make a one-time donation!

We could reorganize from there on out. Just vote for me!

I'll have one of the biggest armed forces to use until they agree to my plan.

Muahahaha!

All bullshittery aside, with billions of personal interests involved, fascist regimes, theocracies or monarchies appear to be mankind's default for social organizations. They've been around longer and appear to be popular with billions, or submitted to, as they forbid anything else.

Democracy and equality under the law are very fragile things that need delicate handling, or we end up defaulting to the older models. Even those who call out for ultimate freedom or a return to nature, end up cults at times, or depend on distant democratic institutions to protect them from cult members.

JMHO, again.

His smiling face would be on EVERY magazine with the "ECONOMIC WONDERWORKER!" headline ...

The republicans would be screaming how he saved the economy and was the greatest president in history.

Media would dutifully propagate that meme and the overall tone to the country would be completely different.

Just the way it is ...

President Obama will go down in history as a brilliant economic leader, he and his team saved the US and world economy from the ruinous policies and wars of the bush years. Its sad that half our country cannot give him the credit he is due. Imagine what he could accomplish if he didn't face opposition at every turn from people who want nothing more than to see him fail?
