OFFICIAL: NO ARREST WARRANT TO BE ISSUED FOR PERRY
Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) A warrant won't be issued for the arrest of Gov. Rick Perry following his indictment on two felony charges of abuse of power.
Linda Estrada, a grand Jury clerk in Travis County, said Monday that the judge overseeing the case decided against issuing an arrest warrant.
Estrada said that Judge Bert Richardson decided instead that Perry will receive a summons to appear which has not been issued yet.
It won't be until Perry's defense attorney and the state set a date for him to appear in court.

(4,229 posts)So Perry allegedly wanted this person to resign due to DUI and they refused.
So is there any precedent there? I mean is there a law or anything in TX that a DUI conviction renders you unfit for public service??
Are there any people in TX in the past that have been convicted of DUI and either were fired or asked to leave or that nothing happened?
It would seem to me if the intent was to prevent people who were convicted of DUI from being gov't employees, that the best route would be for Perry to introduce a bill to the legislature mandating that any gov't employee, legislator or contractor with a DUI conviction would be ineligible to serve in the legislature, work for the state, or receive state contracts?
Now if the purpose was to remove a democrat and force them to resign I can see the funding thing, but if he's really concerned why not pass a law. He's a big Christian right and wingnut so obviously a law that allows no forgiveness would be more the way to go.

George W. Bush DUI Arrest Record
This is the 1976 Maine police document recording the arrest of George W. Bush for driving under the influence of alcohol. Bush, who was 30 at the time, was popped over the Labor Day weekend near his family's Kennebunkport summer home. Bush pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor DUI charge, paid a $150 fine, and had his driving privileges briefly revoked in the state of Maine. The arrest record card was released November 2 by Kennebunkport police. The Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles also released this summary of Bush's DUI conviction.

(487 posts)Because you don't understand how politics work. This opens up this stunt for any minority party with a district attorney willing to roll the dice. It could happen to a president or any governor. Sorry if you cheer this but I want the best and brightest to lead this country and this is just more personal attack politics that thin the field.

In addition, shit like this can be laid at the feet of nearly any governor. I would hate to see our govs get caught up in this bullshit.

(487 posts)Some will use the mug shots of Perry for whatever and the narrative will not matter. Once this is proven to work you can bank on it that every governor in the country will experience this to some degree. Its stupid, trivial and is pure political bullshit that just drags down the country. I want politics to go back to when it worked instead of the partisan crap we are stuck in today. Quite frankly the far right and far left are equally guilty of grinding this country to a stop.

If so, then this looks like preferential treatment. But if not, this seems like huffing and puffing over nothing.
