James Foley, Missing American Photojournalist, Reportedly Beheaded By ISIS In Syria

Last edited Tue Aug 19, 2014, 06:35 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: Huffington Post

James Foley, an American journalist who went missing in Syria more than a year ago, has reportedly been killed by the Islamic State, a militant group formerly known as ISIS.

A YouTube video and photos purportedly of Foley emerged on Tuesday. The video -- entitled "A Message to #America (from the #IslamicState)" -- identified a man on his knees as "James Wright Foley," and showed his beheading.

"This is James Wright Foley, an American citizen of your country," an Islamic State militant says in the video, which has since been removed by YouTube. "As a government, you have been at the forefront of the aggression towards the Islamic State. You have plotted against us and have gone far out of your way to find reasons to interfere in our affairs. Today, your military air force is attacking us daily in Iraq, your strikes have caused casualties among Muslims."

The video also shows another man on his knees who is identified as American journalist Steven Sotloff. The Islamic State member says that Sotloff's future "depends" on President Obama's "next decision." Sotloff, a freelance journalist, went missing in Syria in August 2013.

I'm a peace-loving, hippie-friendly liberal. And guess what? I personally want to go put a gun in that motherfucker's mouth and make him beg for his life and piss himself before sending him to hell. And I want to obliterate/eradicate/utterly destroy everything about this organization. Yes, I'll get to some calmer place in due time, and I'm sure I'll see the folly of my heat-of-the-moment pronouncement. But right this minute, no matter how wrong-headed our foreign policy can be, no matter how many innocents we've killed in our military adventures, I want to take the most powerful fighting force in the history of history and I want to just blow the fuck out of these subhuman thugs. When a group is so bad as to get the peace-loving types ready to kill, well, they fucked up.

End their lives, Mr. President.

People are brought to justice in different ways. During open warfare, which ISIS is most assuredly engaging in, justice is sometimes brought in the form of a Tomahawk cruise missile, which would be entirely appropriate in this situation, given good intelligence and good aim.

No. We have not. They are not an organized military sponsored by a nation. They are individuals committing crimes. And they need to be arrested and brought to justice appropriately. You know what dropping missiles will do? It will only create more criminals just like them. Didn't you learn any lessons during the Bush years? This is what we have sown. The same tactics will only get us more of the same.

Congratulations on your 14 years.

If our allies (or countries that are not traditionally our allies) request help from the US, do you believe they would all be better off without the support? If Iraqis, Kurds or Syrians engage ISIS, do you believe they are only creating more criminals? ISIS declared itself a state and is operating more as a state than a small vague terrorist group. They are an army with heavy weapons and even tanks. At what point do they graduate to being a state in your opinion?

Let's say it's December of 1944. You are General Eisenhower. In front of you is a determined Nazi army. Remember, you cannot get to the Nazi leadership until you deal with that Nazi army.

Tell me, what would be the best way to organize a trial for all those Nazi soldiers now in the field? Would you attempt to capture them individually, and then put each one on trial? Or would you attempt to try them in groups?

Or would you drop all the legal nonsense, and just utterly destroy the Nazi army?

The Nuremberg trials were a (mostly) enlightened event. Those trials dealt with the Nazi leadership.

But I'm not talking about dealing with the ISIS leadership. That can (and should) come later. I'm talking about their troops in the field. You simply cannot try any of ISIS until your utterly destroy their army. You cannot just send a legal team into their territory and say "Excuse me sir, you are under arrest. Please come along."

As to how to destroy ISIS, it MUST be major UN, not American, military operation. America no longer has clean hands in this region.

The heartbreak is that the UN will probably do nothing.

In fact, if he could actually pinpoint them... .couldn't he have them detained and arrested? Wouldn't one be as easy as the other?

I don't play games when it comes to matters of life and death. You clearly do.

"killing all of the motherfuckers"?? Is that your official remedy for the situation? So we'll just pick them out (no innocent civilians of course), and "eliminate them". Good plan.

I'd look up YOUR posting history, but..... well gosh. I decided doing something like that was pretty creepy years ago. Sorry you don't think my papers are in order.

What to do? Well the British are formulating plans. They are attempting to identify the person who killed Mr. Foley, and a former MI6 official says he will be "grabbed by special forces." Thats a better solution than just indiscriminately blowing up everything in sight; don't you think?

You are a world leader (not necessarily the US president), or you can control them. You find out about ISIS going on a tear through Iraq and Syria. You follow the tens of thousands of killings of Christians, Yedizi, and Muslims that don't pas the Isis purity test. What do you do? You can do something to stop the killings. Or you can let it happen. How would you stop it? Bombings? Negotiation? Sanctions? Sending an infantry division or two in? Get Iraq to set aside some land for Isis? Stop other peoples from going into those areas? How do you stop Isis from taking more land? Do you stand in their way in any way? I'm asking an honest, totally non-judgemental question. I just want to know what you think the solution is, since I'm totally wrong here.

Wed Aug 20, 2014, 05:43 PM
Aug 2014

They have condemned ISIS. They have declared Iraq a 'Level 3 emergency' and have urged 'something' be done. Arms have been shipped to the Kurds, but that has been done under individual countries. I'm not seeing much from the UN. So if they continue to do nothing at all, what can be done? Can we get the ICC to show up and arrest ISIS war criminals?

Think twice before basing any argument on "not yet" grounds.

For example:

Person A: The Italians are terrible people. They invade other countries.
Person B: What are you talking about?
Person A: Back in the 1930's Italy invaded Ethiopia and Albania.
Person B: But they haven't invaded anyone in the 21st century.
Person A: Not yet.

Just look at the "good Christian love" shown by a Faux "news" program host.

"The only good Muslim is a dead Muslim..."

ANDREA TANTAROS: If you study the history of Islam. Our ship captains were getting murdered. The French had to tip us off. I mean these were the days of Thomas Jefferson. They've been doing the same thing. This isn't a surprise. You can't solve it with a dialogue. You can't solve it with a summit. You solve it with a bullet to the head. Its the only thing these people understand. And all we've heard from this president is a case to heap praise on this religion, as if to appease them.

Many people respect raw power. This is particularly true in the Middle East, where many tribes have been pushed around by greater forces for centuries.

This beheading was a demonstration of power. Those in the West will be repulsed by it, but many in the Middle East will be impressed by it.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/21/world/middleeast/us-says-dozens-of-americans-have-sought-to-join-rebels-in-syria.html?_r=0

There was a much longer story with pictures of a who drifting about in his life in the USA, who just wanted to find some relevance in his life, I guess and went to Syria. He had no ideology, just a chance to use guns and 'do something' and got into a gang like ISIS. But I don't remember how the story ended. I think he was vet, and wanted to be a mercenary. Whether he'd do something here is another matter. Since he wasn't in the service of another nation, he might not have fit in the category of supplying aid to 'an enemy.' But this is why some things that are much hated are being done abroad to those who just nilly willy join up with a cause. Like Johnny Jihad, I think there are some serious psychological issues going on with all of this. Or at least one might want to excuse it that way, and then again... this is just a barbaric way of thinking and living. And not compatible with any kind of peace we would recognize. Just a few thoughts snaggle... Haven't seen many posts from you lately, hope all is well with you.

In their statement, they say: "Today, your military air force is attacking us daily in Iraq, your strikes have caused casualties among Muslims." (emphasis provided). They are outraged that Muslims are being killed but they themselves have no qualms at all about killing each and every person who is NOT Muslim. They have shown their lethal intent against the Yazidis, Christians, and any other religious group who don't share their extreme version of Islam. And still ISIS claims to be of the religion of peace. The hypocrisy makes me sick.

I have no doubt that there are many Muslims who are NOT violent and do not wish to see anyone suffer. I live in a small near Seattle town that has a Mosque. I have no concerns about them whatsoever.
