Ala. gov signs tax credits for hiring vets bill

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Alabama's governor has signed into law a bill offering new tax credits to companies that hire unemployed veterans.

Gov. Robert Bentley signed the bill Wednesday morning providing a tax credit of $1,000 for a business that hires an unemployed veteran who was deployed overseas and is now within two years of discharge.

The law also offers a credit of up to $2,000 to help and unemployed veteran cover the costs of starting a small business.

Legislative fiscal experts predict the law could reduce the state's income tax collections by more than $1 million annually.

Vets get enough benefits as is, unlike the general population.

I don't see why they should garner extra rights and privileges that are not given to others.

Veterans were serving their country. This doesn't give them advantages, they start in the job marketing more often than not several years behind their peers because of their service.

All these sorts of benefits do is balance the playing field.

Considering they were paid for their time in and then they get benefits when they leave. Now they think they deserve a cut in line.

3. Vets are people who write a blank check to the nation, payable on demand for up to their lives.

What they earned, the country could never afford to pay, so they will have to settle for meager crumbs like this.

Full pay? Maybe. Depends on the injury. Losing a finger shouldn't get lifetime pay.
