Stephen Colbert wins Peabody Award for SuperPAC satire
Wed Apr 4, 2012 3:11pm EDT
(Reuters) - Comedy show "The Colbert Report" won a prestigious Peabody Award on Wednesday for its segments on SuperPACs, in which host Stephen Colbert launched his own SuperPAC as a satirical protest against political spending.
The Peabodys, the oldest in broadcasting, recognize excellence in television and radio broadcasting, as well as by webcasters, producing organizations and individuals.
It was the second Peabody for "The Colbert Report," Comedy Central's satirical look at current events and the news.
"Launching his own SuperPAC as a satirical protest against megabucks politics, Colbert mixed cerebral comedy with inspired sight gags, interviews and preposterously funny monologues," the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, which administers the awards, said in a statement.

(20,885 posts)Some libertarian friends sent me Colbert's interview with representatives of OWS, saying, "he really puts them in their place."
I had to walk them through it, practically frame by frame, and point out the jokes. Then I told them about Poe's Law. (When right wing rhetoric gets radical enough, it's indistinguishable from satire.)
They now know that Colbert is satire, but they are confused by it.

(5,275 posts)It's brilliant on Jon Stewart's show as well. If only the MSN did 1/20th of the hypocrisy calling out that these two shows do.
It is amazing that such a huge pct of wingnuts think Colbert is one of them. The reason is of course that most wingnuts are irony deficient.
