MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) Hillary Rodham Clinton says she has a grandmother glow thats fueling her campaign for gender equality around the globe.
Clinton spoke Thursday to a convention of women real estate professionals. The potential 2016 Democratic presidential contender is calling on business and political leaders to close the gap between men and women in wages and leadership positions. She says all women should grow up in a world of full participation and shared prosperity.
Clinton says new granddaughter Charlotte has just as much God-given potential as a boy who was born in that hospital on the same day.
The former U.S. senator is also in Florida promoting her book and helping Democrat Charlie Crist raise money for his gubernatorial campaign against Republican Gov. Rick Scott.

(8,812 posts)Babies are wonderful at reframing one's worldview. And who but some whacko fundie (maybe a member of "The Family" perhaps?) could disagree with Clinton's dreams for her granddaughter. Nonetheless, that doesn't instantly erase grandma's saber-rattling, climate-killing, bank-loving, corporatist agenda.

(85 posts)Any liberal female candidate must have a female as her VP running mate. The advantage for a VP is important and with the selection of a man, we may return to where we are currently.

(8,812 posts)It used to just refer to geography, but I think it can now include gender and race as well.
I'd like to see something like a Bernie Sanders/Kamala Harris ticket.
Or perhaps an Elizabeth Warren/Van Jones one.
Hey, I can dream.
Actually, I think a more "realistic" ticket might be Martin O'Malley/Kamala Harris.
(although Harris would make an excellent AG)
Welcome to DU, Lamonte!

(2,062 posts)I am and I can say, I have not been very happy with Martin O'Malley as our Governor. I am not thinking of voting for Hogan either. Actually I am not very please with any of our candidates this year. I may write in vote for Heather Mizeur.

(8,812 posts)The O'Malley idea was more of a hunch than an endorsement. I don't follow Maryland politics closely enough to say, although it seems as though when I hear national stories about O'Malley, he's usually doing something fairly progressive (e.g. banning the death penalty, approving same-sex marriage, etc.) and that he's colorful (musician) and somewhat telegenic.
I don't know anything about the current Hogan, although I vaguely remember his father, who was a fairly progressive Republican (Yikes! Whatta concept!) as I recall.
I'd never heard of Mizeur, but she seems like more of my kind of politician.
