Patient hospitalized in D.C. with possible Ebola symptoms

A person with possible Ebola symptoms has been hospitalized in Washington, D.C. out of "an abundance of caution," the hospital confirmed in a statement.

The patient, who traveled to the U.S. from Nigeria, has been hospitalized at Howard University Hospital in Washington.

"We can confirm that a patient has been admitted to Howard University Hospital in stable condition, following travel to Nigeria and presenting with symptoms that could be associated with Ebola," hospital spokesperson Kerry-Ann Hamilton said in a statement Friday.

"In an abundance of caution, we have activated the appropriate infection control protocols, including isolating the patient. Our medical team continues to evaluate and monitor progress in close collaboration with the CDC and the Department of Health.

"For privacy reasons, we cannot share additional details about the case. We will continue to provide key updates as the situation warrants."

They guy in Texas came from a different country. So it is probably unlikely that the two men had any sort of contact.

But there are lots of loopholes.

It's a minor point, and I understand your bigger point, but I wanted to add to it.

Any guesses as to when the unfettered arrival of potential Ebola carriers will finally be curtailed?

confirmed and is coming home for treatment. The rest of the NBC crew are also coming home and all of them are voluntarily being quarantined for 21 days. So there are more coming.

In some cases we may be seeing people who are fleeing the country to try to escape the disease and they are coming to the USA. I wonder how many other countries are getting refugees from this crisis?

Nigeria has pretty much contained it's Ebola outbreak... so it is highly unlikely that this person has Ebola, but very good that they are taking these extra precautions.

A possible case of the deadly Ebola virus has been identified at a hospital near Miami, NBC 6 reports.

Officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made the announcement on Monday.

Later on Monday, on a press call with reporters, the CDC clarified that the patient was "low-risk" and that state health authorities had already found a negative result for Ebola. A specimen from the patient was on the way to a CDC laboratory for confirmatory testing of that negative result.

No patients at Washington-area hospitals who were being evaluated for Ebola have the deadly disease, health officials say.

A patient at Howard University Hospital had been “ruled out” as an Ebola case, officials there said Saturday, while a patient at George Washington University Hospital was determined to have the flu.

A third patient, who was evaluated at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Md., had malaria, and not Ebola, the hospital said Friday.
