ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Thousands have gathered in St. Louis for a second day of rallies and marches protesting Michael Brown's death and other fatal police shootings.
Vietnam-era peace activists, New York City seminarians and hundreds of fast-food workers bused in from Chicago, Nashville and other cities joined local residents and activists Saturday.
Michael Brown, a black, unarmed 18-year-old, was shot and killed Aug. 9 by Darren Wilson, a white officer in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson.
Four days of events are planned in the St. Louis area. They started Friday afternoon with a march outside the St. Louis county prosecutor's office in Clayton.

(20,815 posts)today there was a lot of fairly positive coverage on CNN, no less, as well as a lengthy panel discussion on the epidemic of out-of-control police across the country and how to go about changing that. I would not have expected that from CNN.

(21,118 posts)None of the protests will change the course of the Darren Wilson grand jury. It should have an impact on police practices in the future. If nothing else, more and more videos of abuse are appearing, more people are turning on cameras.
I still contend the most effective protest would be to bus people to the 600 voter registration sites in St. Louis County. That would cause much more pants-shitting and receive much less criticism.

I remember when all those Teabagger rallies, with 32 Porta-Potties and 12 protesters, got all day C-Span coverage.....Remember the "WHERE YOU AT?" when no one showed up to "take their country back"?

(20,815 posts)wishes she'd been able to join several of her fellow students from our progressive, social-justice-oriented seminary who made a long trip to participate. I hope it continues and doesn't let up until something is finally done.
