Survey: Gas prices continue to decline nationally

Source: AP-Excite

CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — A national survey of gas prices reports that Americans are paying 12 cents on average less than they were three weeks ago.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that the average for regular grade gas is $3.26 per gallon, while midgrade averages $3.48 and premium $3.64. Retail diesel averages $3.74.

Lundberg said the price has decreased for 16 weeks, crediting lower crude oil prices.

Ca rep Andy Vidac who is running ads in Central Valley California saying he's going to stop at .76 cent per gallon increase in gasoline prices.

That was almost as thrilling as accidentally discovering I could get $1/gallon off from my grocery store privacy invasion card at a station in Tucson! 25 gallons for $2.20/gal!

I should state that we can put a man on the moon but we can't make an engine that gets 100 mpg?? Come on.

When the big bump came during the * administration there were Suburbans, Trailblazers and every other gas hog for sale for cheap. Everyone was selling them.

Higher gas prices force the market to react. Once prices decrease (which is a crock o schnitzle) it just extends our dependence and the auto industry will not change.

That would impact working people the most as they drive to work. There are better ways to stimulate innovation than regressive taxation. The best way I can think of is having a government program that designs an engine that efficient, and then license out production to the auto manufacturers, just like we designed the Apollo program and contracted out production to Big Aerospace.

There are already vehicles that get exceptional mileage and engines that even get over 120mpg. I understand it would be difficult as I would also be affected. My point was that when gas prices spiked there was 'change in the air'. People conserved and were dumping gas hogs left and right.

Necessity is the mother of invention. Just sayin, not arguing....

The price was over $5.00 during the BushCo years.

After Obama got in office, the lowest it's been was $1.99. So the GOP said that would destroy the economy. Probably was lowered by the Saudis because Obama's green energy stimulus programs were taking effect.

The OPEC crowd saw the writing on the wall and wanted to make us feel safe to waste gas again. We didn't fall for it and kept funding alternative energy, mass transit and got rid of the gas guzzlers.

Every region is different.

along a heavily traveled main strip dotted with many gas stations, and that place was PACKED with lines of cars to each pump (where a Sunoco tanker truck that had come to refill the master tank was forced to wait "in line" as well, just to get to the service area).

Meanwhile closest to me, they are slow to fall (running ~$3.49, a bit further away are running ~$3.32). Hoping to see them drop it this week. It would be nice to see it go below $3.00 near me. It's been years and years... (hard here in PA with the state excise taxes on it)

The fossil fuel industry wants to make sure no one has any crazy ideas about the need for alternatives.

If they did they might not vote for the right people.

Safe investment for them. Drop the prices for a bit, then back up to gouge level. Everyone is thrilled to death to save 10 cents a gallon and forgets the smell in their water and how much it costs to fix that.

But hey, it's not pushing $5 a gallon like right after Katrina.

Too bad I sold my old car, a Grand Marquis, last summer . But the 20 pounds in weight loss from riding my bike to work is nice.
