Study: Coffee Is Good For Your Liver
Source: CBS
Drinking decaffeinated and regular coffee is good for your liver, a new study finds.
Researchers said that a chemical in coffee other than caffeine may help the liver.
Prior research found that drinking coffee may have a possible protective effect on the liver, Dr. Qian Xiao, of the National Cancer Institute and lead researcher, said in a news release. However, the evidence is not clear if that benefit may extend to decaffeinated coffee.
The researchers analyzed data from about 27,800 people who were ages 20 or older. The participants had to report how much coffee they had drank over the past 24 hours. The researchers then looked at their blood samples for markers on liver health.
The findings showed that people who said they drank three or more cups of coffee a day had lower levels of alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, and gammaglutamyl transaminase. Elevated levels of these enzymes may be a sign of liver damage.

I love coffee - it is one of my vices - sadly I can't drink it in large quanta - my stomage get upset - and I do not want it to be that.... It Hurts a lot... And I have had to cut back to a very small quota when I'm able to drink coffee... But then again - I can drink so much tea as I want - and I guess I drink a few liters of its every day - and it works also for my kidneys who lack some power to do their job.... My mothers was drinking a lot of coffee - and I often was asked to cock it for her - to the day I deiced to make some decent coffee - and the poor woman almost got a hearth attack - it was little to strong for her taste - and as a result I was never asked to make another pot of coffee for some reason

(413 posts)But, a good 'groan'... That was pretty nifty, actually. I'm an honest-to-goodness old-style coffee drinking 'everyman' who learned its benefits long ago during mid-watches in the Coast Guard... no cups - mugs only... and hot!

(185 posts)OK, the way I figure it wine is good for the heart - it has alcohol so that means beer must be good for the heart. Coffee keeps the liver going. So my new diet is a 6 pack and a pot of coffee a day.

(51,076 posts)we make our coffee pretty weak though. I might drink a half a pot a morning in the wintertime. I used to ask my doctor how my liver was doing when we'd do blood work and he'd always say fine so the alcohol wasn't killing me I guess.

(7,549 posts)so my liver must be very healthy. One morning back in the long ago I was pestering my Dad for a taste of his coffee. He used to drink it with cream and sugar. He finally relented and told me " ok but you won't like it". He was wrong. I loved it and have had it pretty much every morning since. I take mine straight though now. I love French Vanilla flavored coffee though.
