Intuit Is Now The Fourth Company To Drop Voter Suppression Group ALEC

Source: Think Progress

Software company Intuit, the makers of programs such as Turbo Tax and Quicken, announced today that they will join Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Kraft as the fourth company to end their partnership with the right-wing American Legislative Exchange Council this week.
The Center for Media & Democracy, which launched ALECexposed.com last year, broke the news:
A stampede seems to be on the way as more and more groups break ties and dump ALEC. Intuit, Inc. (maker of Quicken and QuickBooks accounting software) told the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) that Intuit also decided not to renew its membership after it expired in 2011. That comment came from Bernie McKay, Vice President of Government Affairs.

I was going to write to Intuit telling them that after 12 years I will not be using TurboTax if they don't leave ALEC.

Agreed. Why would a company like that get involved in supporting junk like FailureToCommunicate Apr 2012 #4

They have screwed up the legislation for half the states -- perhaps made it impossible for a democratic president to be (re)elected.

Photo IDs, tort reform, denying abortions, charter schools, registration restrictions, union busting -- they have already fucked us! Now they want to distance themselves?

What will they do to make up for the damage they have already done?

We can't forget about
reversing school integration, under the guise of getting rid of forced busing.
drug testing of welfare applicants
privatizing anything they can sink their claws into such as prisons and foster care.

They made sure that Republican majorities were elected in many states during a census year, which meant that the Republicans had the power to gerrymander new districts. The damage this has done and will do to my state is incalculable.

Then, their lawyers write fascist legislation and hand it to the Republicans controlling state legislatures. That's the source of the amendment that will criminalize not just equal marriage for gay people but any kind of domestic union, straight or gay, and leave children and the victims of domestic abuse without any protection in North Carolina if the voters ratify it on May 8.

Now we've learned that ALEC is behind all the miserable Stand Your Ground laws.

Damage is done and we'll be paying the piper for a long time to come.

Did Turbo Tax this year, got a nice refund (could use more, but State of Colorado wanted my back taxes, now paid off)

Next year, will use Turbo Tax again for the 3rd consective year as it handled our taxes well.
