Home Care Workers Launch Their Own Fight For $15

Source: Workers Independent News

By Doug Cunningham

Home care workers around the country are launching a Home Care Fight For $15- to raise wages of home care workers to fifteen dollars an hour. The home care workers are confronting elected officials calling on them to support their fight for $15. Actions this week include Wisconsin, Virginia, Colorado, Georgia and Michigan. Home Care Workers say they are joining fast food workers and other workers in a national movement for better pay, better rights on the job and an economy that works for everyone.

A lot of places it is $17 - $18 per hour for that kind of care. yellowcanine Oct 2014 #5
If Ebola continues to spread, it will take a lot more than $15/hour to get people to do those jobs Ex Lurker Oct 2014 #3

She needs 24 hour home care and Medicare doesn't cover that. Any ideas? I want to see home care workers make more (she pays $10/hour as it is) but a lot of their clients are at the end of their financial rope as it is.

Does she own her house? If so she might be able to get a reverse mortgage. Failing that with our system it is up to the family to make up the difference or try to get into a Medicaid facility. Really those are the choices.

The only way she could afford to do it was because of extra financial aid from mom. Her clients loved her, but she finally HAD to quit and to get a better paying job, which thanks be to whatever, she WAS able to find. It's criminal how LITTLE we pay these folks. The sanitation workers who pick up the garbage (whom I TOTALLY respect and honor) get WAY better wages that do these people who are taking care of folks who need extra in-home help. MORE of this should be publicly funded. CUT THE MILITARY and fund our own people! Ms Bigmack
