Source: Pittsburg Post-Gazette
HARRISBURG A Pennsylvania state representative exchanged fire with a man who attempted to rob him blocks from the Capitol Tuesday night, according to the House Democratic leader's office.
Rep. Marty Flynn, D-Lackawanna, and Rep. Ryan Bizzarro, D-Erie, were walking home from the Capitol area a little before 11 p.m. when they were approached by a man who pointed a gun at them and demanded their wallets, according to a press release from the Democratic leader's office. A man across the street shouted instructions to the gunman, the statement said.
"Neither lawmaker handed over anything," the statement said. "Flynn drew a handgun that he is licensed to carry and exchanged shots with the first male, at which time both attackers and victims ran in different directions
Harrisburg police arrested four suspects, identified as Jamani Ellison, 17; Jyair Leonard, 15; Derek Anderson, 17; and Zha-quan McGhee, 15.

Step two: point gun at your own foot (citation needed)

(246 posts)I understand and agree with defending themselves. but spraying a narrow residential street with gunfire that could injure bystanders or residents is irresponsible. Pepper spray would have achieved the same results in a more responsible manner.

(2,256 posts)I guarantee they would shoot you. They should have done what they did or complied with the gunmens demands. Spraying him in the face with pepper spray is just giving him a reason to shoot you.

(246 posts)Every gun enthusiast's fantasy is that while some perp is attempting to rob them they whip out their firearm and send said perp to the everlasting. This story proves that isn't what happens in the real world. You have two guys a few yards apart blasting away at each other and not hitting shit. That is reality.
Pepper spray doesn't need to be a head shot or in the critical mass it only has to be close enough to affect the target. Nobody is going to be shooting a gun while they can't see and are having trouble breathing.

(359 posts)This points to the need for better gun control on the part of the Congressman. Standing a few feet from his target and unable to hit it? Sounds like he needed more range time. lol

(2,086 posts)is as likely to cause a "reflex shot" as it is to mobilize an armed attacker. I don't think there's any single, simple answer to street violence, but spraying one of two armed attackers doesn't seem to be an appropriate response.

(7,403 posts)Enter the criminal justice/prison cycle, very sad.
On a side note, why are they releasing the names of juveniles?
And they should probably delete their Facebook pages, Jyair Leonard's occupation is listed as "Boss at Fuckin Bitches and Gettin Money".
