Susana Martinez Spying Accusation: New Mexico Governor Spokesman Responds To Claims Of Political Espionage

New evidence suggests New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and her campaign staff used federal databases and resources to spy on Democrats during her first run for governor in 2010, according to a press release Wednesday from a New Mexico advocacy group called ProgressNowNM. Emails previously released by the group showed then-District Attorney Martinez’s top prosecutor and investigator emailing internal case files and evidence from investigations into GOP voter fraud to her campaign manager days before the election.

“First we found that prosecutors and investigators tipped off Republican operatives about an investigation into GOP voter fraud just before the election and now we learn that anyone with a Democratic bumper sticker was subject to spying and a background check,” said Patrick Davis, spokesman for ProgressNowNM, in the press release.

Martinez faces re-election in two weeks for a second term, and is often mentioned as a potential Republican candidate for the 2016 presidential election. Mother Jones magazine first published allegations of Martinez’s political espionage earlier this year, noting, “despite numerous requests, the governor and her aides declined to comment for this piece.” But in reply to an inquiry for comment Wednesday, Chris Sanchez, spokesman for Martinez, told Internation Business Times the claims are "ridiculous" and have been "disproved."

In a recent interview with a former staff member, the Santa Fe Reporter exposed alleged evidence of Martinez’s unlawful political espionage in an article published Tuesday. Anissa Ford, the former staffer, told the Reporter that Martinez asked her take a picture of an anti-Martinez bumper sticker on a car and send it to an investigator in Martinez’s Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The bumper sticker read, “Say No To Susana la Tejana,” a phrase used by Democrats at the time as a dig against Martinez. The investigator used law enforcement databases to trace the vehicle’s owner using its license plate number in the photo, Ford told the Santa Fe Reporter.

This just shows everyone what a republican will do, but now with a modern twist from the GOP "PLUMBER" List foundation.
Have an public agency that is paid for by all New Mexicans with there tax dollars to go around in police cars and send bumper stickers information that just don't like you and what you represent and then send it to a GOP operative and then do what with this ANIMAL FARM mentality, better yet lets think 1984.
IMPEACH this hypocrite and fire any public servant who are involved
Heh, New Mexico is this what you voted for? To live in a state where you are subject to fear and hate and have a political party (GOP) intimidating your democratic republic values---really?

She won the election four years ago because Bill Richardson, her Democratic predecessor, had made himself truly hated by most people here. You may recognize his name as he was Secretary of Energy in the second Clinton administration.

Susana (almost no one refers to her by her last name here, and when anyone wants to be insulting they simply call her La Tejana, the Texan) will win re-election because her opponent is incredibly incompetent. He's Gary King, the son of another former governor, currently AG of the state. He won in a 5 person primary probably because of name recognition, and hasn't done anything right since then. It's sad.

To be honest, a GOP ticket of Christie and Martinez would in a way be perfect, because Susana is is every bit as corrupt and venial as Christie, but just in a smaller arena.

The teachers appear fired up about Gary King. (my impression
from Facebook) -- if so, there may be ripple effects we can't
measure.

I wish King were making more of a deal about solar power,
selling NM out to the Kochs, and more. Medical MJ program,
and decriminalization. He seems like a genuinely nice person
unlike the disingenuous texan.

I only knew Bill Richardson as a presidential candidate back
when, and I loved him then. Wasn't living in NM at that
time so I don't know why people hated him.

quite get it either. I have been told that when he was the 3rd District Rep (Ben Ray Lujan the current Rep) he was extremely popular. Apparently he did a good job back then of staying in touch with his constituents. Then he went off to DC and was never quite the same ever since, from what people tell me. They also resented that he made a Presidential run in 2008 when he'd promised to stay home and be the Governor.

So because she had been in his administration, Diane Denish was poisoned, and so lost to Susana. The schools here are not very good to begin with, and what's been happening since 2010 is downright criminal.
