Movie theaters banned from hosting World Series watch parties

Source: KSHB

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Several movie theaters' World Series watch parties around Kansas City were crashed after personnel from Major League Baseball told them to stop.

Managers at Cinetopia movie theater in Overland Park received a letter from Fox Broadcasting on Tuesday telling them the company hadn't authorized Cinetopia to air the World Series games and they must immediately stop.

Fox Broadcasting had no comment regarding the situation.

The theater posted a notice to customers on its Facebook page blaming AMC theaters for informing Fox Networks , a claim AMC refutes. You can also read the post from Cinetopia, including its two edits, in the media player above.

Other venues paid the licensing fee and have had no problem. Apparently these theaters thought they could get away with making $$$$ without paying the price of admission like everyone else.

They would go after anyone video taping a new movie that the theater chain paid for.

The post season games leading up to the WS weren't even on a major network channel. I think that they had better be happy that people are watching it, regardless if it is in a theater or in their living rooms or at small WS parties at neighbor's homes.
