Postal Workers Take on Harvard President

Source: Inside Higher

By Ry Rivard

Criticism of Harvard University is coming from an unusual quarter: postal workers.

The American Postal Workers Union is calling for President Drew Gilpin Faust to resign her seat on office supply store Staples’ board of directors if she won’t criticize the company.

The attack on Faust, who usually makes news only when she wants to, is an unlikely extension of the union’s fight with the United States Postal Service. But Faust is apparently the first sitting Harvard president to serve on a corporate board.
In particular, the union has rallied around the idea that the postal service is trying to outsource some of its jobs because of a deal it struck last year with Staples to offer mail service in the company’s stores.

Under the deal, which has since been scaled back amid union pressure, Staples employees – not unionized postal workers – would be handling the letters and packages.

FULL story at link.

Ms. Faust should read the Constitution, since she is suppose to have an education
The postal workers are basically federalized employees working under a federal mandate and a act called the Constitution who work under the Constitution to deliver our mail through a firm that says it will do so, it does not say let someone do this it say the government must do this.
Staples, ie. Mitt Romney and his hedge fund own or use to own Staples and he is still on the board if memory serves me correctly.
I do not want my dollars going to a 47% board member supporter who supports what Tom Delay, Dennis Hassert did when they had a voice vote in 2006, causing this problem that this organization had to fund its health care into the future at a price of 75 billion dollars.
Faust should have her college, (Harvard) fund the health care of its employees the same way that she supports the Hassert, Delay, and the current post master general and there union busting tactics.
The Union at the postal service employees are being FORCED to do this, they have always made a profit until recently, they are paying for employees health care who have not even been born yet or been employed at the service, and if there had been a single payer system implemented then there would be no problems, but, since there is not, then Faust and her cronies on this board and there policies should be FORCED to do the same thing to her employees and supporters, then we can see how long the college would last.
She looks like a hypocrite of nothing more than plain old greed
I do not want a privatize employee handling my mail, there is no quality control at that Firm, have you been to one lately.
I will support this UNION of workers and will not go into Staples to let her siphon my money for her greed to live off of while at the same time attacking the postal worker middle class worker, that is unconscionable to say the least
