Israel Beats out US for $525 Million Arms Sale to India

Source: jewish press

India has chosen to purchase Israel’s Spike anti-tank missiles, made by Rafael, after rejecting a competing offer for US Lockheed Martin’s Javelin missiles, according to a Reuters report.

India will buy 8000 missiles and 300 launchers from Israel.

Faced with attacks from Pakistan and tension with China, India wants to the weapon’s procurement deal to go through fast.

India is currently the world’s largest arms buyer, so hopefully, Israel will see many more deals in the future.

I am so bad in keeping up with this stuff.

My first thought when reading the article was, "yeah, now they have more money to build settlements".

...if this is somehow subsidized by US taxpayers money. In development, R&d or manufacturing so they can beat US manufactures out of an opportunity to hire US workers. Or if this is based on stolen or given tech.

Israel has good reasons to be self sufficient in military weapons. First off, there is no guarantee that technology transfers will continue - alliances change. Secondly, using US technology means that the US has a veto over who Israel can sell the weapons to. Purely Israeli designed weapons are much more profitable on the international market.

Really, the bulk of Israel's technology is based on tech they are given basically for free, that they then tweak around and alter here and there. And that's fine, technological progress is technological progress. But this is presented as if Israel were some infinite wellspring of ultra-bleeding edge technology.

Which is a lot like claiming the guy who wrote the programming for "Flappy Bird" invented the iphone.

Since they have the ability to develop weapon systems, and are making significant profits from selling those weapons, why do they need billion$ from us? Especially when our infrastructure is crumbling, our schools are falling further behind, and the cost of college is skyrocketing.

the fact that Israel has refined and ultimately perfected several of our key weapons systems gives them some advantages in the free market.

Of course, it enrages some that Israel has the temerity to have weapons at all...some nerve, acting like a sovereign nation and all. just in case...can't be too careful these days.

Israel is a reliable arms supplier unlike the USA. The US congress or executive branch can pull the plug on spare parts/service any time if the buyer doesn't dance to America's tune.

India just recently also purchased missile defense systems from Israel worth $980 million for India's navy.

Two years ago, India purchased two AWAC systems from Israel (with US permission) for $2.2 billion.

India has also purchased several Israeli fast-light warships worth about $3 billion.

A lot of arms sales will happen under Narendra Modi's government and Israel stands to benefit the most.
