Remember way back when, when you could turn on the television to find commercials for trucks and hamburgers and prescription drugs with lots of side effects?
Those were the good old days, werent they?
The spending on TV ads in Iowas highly contentious U.S. Senate race has roughly doubled in recent weeks, underscoring a surge in political advertising ahead of a Nov. 4 election in which several high-profile races are on the Iowa ballot.
Across 24 stations with viewers in Iowa, candidates vying to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin and the groups backing them spent $13.9 million on more than 26,000 commercials during the five-week period from Sept. 11 to Oct. 15, according to a new joint analysis of public records by the Omaha World-Herald, the Des Moines Register and six other newspapers.
