While blistering Obama, Christie praises George W. Bush’s leadership

The Record

Governor Christie argued Saturday night that President Obama did a lousy job as a world leader.

But Christie also made the case that Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush, did a better job.

“When we have folks around the world who wonder any longer what’s it mean to be a friend with the US, and what would the United States do in return for our friendship?,’’ Christie said during a fundraiser-birthday party for Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad in a Des Moines suburb.“That never, never had to be worried about in the past administration. Everyone knew where George Bush stood and who he stood with.”

Invoking Bush’s name, even in a Republican crowd, seemed a bit jarring. Bush ended his tenure a deeply unpopular president, with the public dissatisfied with his handling of the Iraq War and the economic crisis of 2008. Since his departure, Republican candidates rarely mention name, content to have Bush retreat to his ranch, write his memoirs and stay away from the campaign trail.

So why is Christie going where few Republicans have gone over the past six years?

One reason may be loyalty. It was, after all, George Bush who rescued Christie from oblivion. Christie and a close circle of allies became top tier “pioneer” fundraisers for Bush’s 2000 campaign. Bush went on to nominate Christie for United States Attorney in 2001. It was the role that elevated Christie and positioned him for his 2009 campaign for governor, in which he soundly defeated then-Gov. Jon Corzine, a Democrat. Christie would not be standing on any stage in Iowa or the Jimmy Fallon Show, as a potential 2016 presidential candidate if not for George Bush.

that wasn't the case in the decade prior to obama. Bush had done so much harm it's amazing how much Obama fixed in the amount he was given. Bush was no leader as he wasn't elected for the first 4 years thus we had no leader. Dick Cheney was the leader from 05-09. God hope Bush has that laugh in hell and stays there

New Jersey, Since you elected this jerk and now have a part time governor running around doing nothing except bankrupting your state and dropping it on the credit watch (down graded eight times since this hypocrite was elected) and job creation (rated at 36 out of 50 states), maybe someone from your area should remind this jerk that under the war criminal ( Bush and crew) rein of terror, 152 New Jersey citizens were murdered based on a lie, so in Christies little world he can wrap himself to the Bush flag, since he has nothing else and nothing better to do, except get your state out of its mess.
And just for the record if you go to "ONE NEW JERSEY. org" the facts about this jerk's leadership speaks volumes of what he would do if he were elected president with a republican controlled Congress, your state is in shambles

This seems to be a trend that is slowly emerging from the right. And it is an I.Q. test for the American people. If our collective memory is so bad that we begin to think of the G.W. Bush presidency as the good old days this country is doomed. Christie did to the New Jersey economy and prospects for its people exactly what G.W did to this country. That coupled with the propaganda against Pres. Obama and every decent facet of our society will have created an unbelievably dismal society that guarantees our future as the world's most hated nation state. And after what the American tax payer did for N. J. after Sandy, he has proven himself as the ungrateful bastard he is.

The invocation of the Bush name is akin to the rehabilitation of figures that used to take place in the old USSR. The GOP will spend the next two years arguing that Bush/Cheney was right and Obama has been wrong on Middle East foreign policy, and that only a Republican can effectively deal with these issues.
