CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK/WYMT) - According to a news release issued by Members of United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 400, members voted by a overwhelming majority to ratify a new three- year collective bargaining agreement.
The new agreement is with union members from Kroger stores in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.
It increases wages for employees and preserves their health and retirement security, according to the same release.
The wage increase comes in part because of the recently passed minimum wage increase in West Virginia.

The Kroger (Bakers) stores in Omaha ARE NOT unionized. Metro Omaha has not had any unionized grocery stores since Albertsons left in 2004. Marta and I still miss them. We used to have three different unionized chains. We do shop at Bakers because it indirectly supports union workers in other markets.

(1,986 posts)There is so little good news on unionization these days, despite the fact that unions are needed now more than ever.

(406 posts)Krogers' workers should get more pay than they do. It's better than most stores, but most of them are nowhere near living wage.
