(61,694 posts)About Cory Gardner, misrepresentating his position as more moderate than it is. NPR did a piss-poor job of being fair; all coverage was slanted in Gardner's favor.

(61,694 posts)Described Gardner as being neutral on abortion rights when he cosponsored a personhood amendment, etc.

(3,145 posts)1. Gun control - Dems were warned that pushing a gun control agenda wasn't a groovy idea but they did it anyway. That, I believe, is one of the biggest reasons the D's went down in flames.
2. Gardner ran as a moderate - He had ads touting wind energy and even an ad where he complimented Udall. Plus he ran away from his previous support for "personhood" amendments and portrayed himself as a supporter of contraception access.
Colorado Liberal
(145 posts)...just as long as there is HUGE money behind the lies. Gardner has NO record as a moderate, or as a bipartisan, or as a supporter of alternative energy. There was No substance behind his campaign, but with enough Koch brothers money behind your story, apparently having substance is no longer a requirement to win statewide office.
As for personhood, he's still a sponsor of a personhood bill in the House, and I expect he'll have another "epiphany" and be back in favor of it before he's even seated in the Senate...

(3,145 posts)$100 says he'll go full Tea Party once in the Senate.
jamzrockz
(1,333 posts)Most republicans who went full tea party did it only because at the time it helped them win elections. Now that the tea party is all but dead, now way in the world he goes full tea party. Full pro corporation republican? then I will agree

(62,270 posts)It didn't help that Gardner is a lot younger than Udall.
Fact remains the youth stayed home.

(5,082 posts)They did not stay at home. But in many states the republicans were more motivated. It's Obamas fault for playing footsie with the Right who was going to hate him anyway. Betraying Progressives was a mistake and does affect turnout. Obama turned his back on his friends to cozy up to racists that will never like him. But Obama had been serving Bush from the get go so here's your wake up call. He was actually counting on a Republican Senate to squelch the Senate Torture Report according to a The Nation. I'm not at all surprised.

(5,082 posts)I bet Obama didn't try and help Udall. He challenged power unlike the centrist Republcan-lite Obama and Clinton's. Same old story. Hope you like Jeb Bush in 2016. That's what you get for rolling over to Rethuglicans and betraying Progressive causes. Fools.

(62,270 posts)Udall was actually very critical of Obama's NSA program. So he couldn't be critical of the program the way he was and then shake Obama's hand at a rally.

(5,082 posts)Obama like Bush and Clinton put this guy on the target list for sticking up for Americans rights.
