Scott Walker elected to second term, third election victory in four years
Source: Wisconsin State Journal
WEST ALLIS -- Gov. Scott Walker won his third governors race in four years Tuesday, giving him a second term to overhaul state government with fellow Republicans-- and setting the stage for a possible presidential run.
Walker's victory over Democratic challenger Mary Burke, a Madison businesswoman and philanthropist whose only elective office had been as a Madison School Board member, was more decisive than many observers might have predicted even two weeks ago.
The race drew national attention, largely because Walker became a national conservative hero in 2011 after pushing through a controversial law that all but ended collective bargaining for most of Wisconsins public workers. Act 10 triggered massive protests at the state Capitol and resulted in more than a dozen recalls, including one targeting Walker.
Walker was the first governor to survive a recall, and he became an increasingly popular speaker and campaign surrogate throughout the country. He released a 2013 book, "Unintimidated," and has been seen as a potential 2016 presidential contender.

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: Walker defeats Burke for third victory in four years
Wow, what was Wisconsin thinking? The "John Doe" scandal wasn't enough to persuade voters to throw him out?

(5,279 posts)It's in print as well. All the money spent to influence the opinions of the population.
They presented in detail very little for the population to like. They said in scrupulous detail things to dislike about every aspect of our message. Where there wasn't a problem, they concocted one.
Without giving Wisconsin something to want, they effectively got Wisconsin to be suspicious of what we offered.
They did a better job than we did. They out spent us. They out attacked us. They mobilized a smaller base to greater effect.
Now, learn, from our mistakes and their achievements.

(34,658 posts)I guess that's why they can call a statewide race so early. If there is election fraud going on, its been done consistently for many years.
Sadly, we get the government WE vote for. Scott Walker, Paul Ryan, Jim Sensenbrenner.

1. Keep in mind we're dealing with a "snake oil salesman" here. He's a slick con man.
2. Third election in a row the Democrats have put up a soft candidate.
Issues that engaged policy wonks like ourselves here on DU pay attention to (John Doe Probe, etc) don't get much traction outside the Madison and Milwaukee media markets.
A bright spot, if it can be called that, is I understand the final score was 52%-47%. That surprised me as when I turned off the TV at 10 pm he's was running up large margins. If he can beat someone like Burke by only five percentage points, that doesn't say much about him. He's no Tommy Thompson, who regularly was well into the 60s%.
On edit: at least with his re-election, Walker now owns this mess he has created and only he can get himself out. His policies aren't sustainable and will eventually collapse unto himself. And he's running out of boogeymen to target.

(1,103 posts)Walker won which is bad enough. He now has more conservative members in the state house that will back proposals like right to work. There were a few moderate repubs who kept him somewhat in check the last 4 years -- Wisconsin is in for a rough ride.
