Voting Machines Allegedly Switched Votes and Other Election Day Horror Stories

Irregularities and long lines reported as Americans cast ballots in midterm elections.

Technical problems with machines and long lines were just some of the obstacles Americans faced as they attempted to vote in the midterm elections on Tuesday. Reports of complications and glitches had already emerged by the afternoon in a handful of states, including Georgia, Connecticut, Virginia, and Maryland.

“We have seen some instances where machines are switching votes,” Khyla Craine, assistant attorney general counsel at the NAACP, told TakePart. Her organization is monitoring the election in collaboration with nonpartisan group Election Protection to root out voter suppression and other foul play.

Maryland and Virginia are the states where machines were allegedly swapping votes, Craine said, but she declined to share any details about which candidates might be affected. As a nonpartisan organization, Craine said, the NAACP is just focused on enabling voters to choose their preferred candidate.

not to mention non-college minority and immigrant votes. And that's just NC. That's enough of a margin of error in a few elections to have thrown it to the GOP.

This was deliberate and I believe unconstitutional.

Electronic Voting Machines: Screen Flips Votes in Key US Senate Race

Trustworthiness of electronic voting machines comes under scrutiny yet again

The trustworthiness of electronic voting machines has once again come under scrutiny after a touch screen in North Carolina flipped a man’s vote from Democrat to Republican in a key Senate race.

“Percy Bostick, 69, of Greensboro said he tried casting a vote for Democrat Kay Hagan at the Old Guilford County Courthouse, only to have the machine register Republican Thom Tillis as his choice,” reports the News-Record.

Bostick was forced to vote four times before the machine accurately recorded his choice.

With just over a point separating Tillis and Hagan in this crucial contest, any impropriety centered on electronic voting machines is likely to cause a dispute if the margin of victory is smaller than the amount of votes cast on touch screen systems.

Happened in IL. also. It was found to be a matter of calibration.

12. According to a GOP candidate talking to Fox News:

From the GR article:

“You could imagine my surprise as the same thing happened with a number of races when I tried to vote for a Republican and the machine registered a vote for a Democrat,” Republican state representative candidate Jim Moynihan told Fox News.

In other words, file under cool story bro. The only documented flip identified in the article was Dem-to-GOP:

Percy Bostick, 69, of Greensboro said he tried casting a vote for Democrat Kay Hagan at the Old Guilford County Courthouse, only to have the machine register Republican Thom Tillis as his choice,” reports the News-Record.

I haven't seen any cases of republican to Democratic, which makes the phenomenon rather suspicious.

In IL, there were reports of Repug votes being flipped to Dem votes, it was determined to be a problem with calibration.

A woman who voted early last week in Montgomery County, Md. saw her three votes for Republican candidates flip to Democrat right before her eyes. The error was subsequently blamed on a “calibration issue.”

Votes being cast for Republican candidates in Illinois were also changed to Democrats.

“You could imagine my surprise as the same thing happened with a number of races when I tried to vote for a Republican and the machine registered a vote for a Democrat,” Republican state representative candidate Jim Moynihan told Fox News

I've participated in monitoring elections and most states machines can't be trusted for an accurate count. Hundreds of thousands of votes have been flipped in past elections, many who were declared winners didn't actually get the most votes, such as Bush twice, several in georgia, florida etc.
