Inspector: No sign of investigation in 1,111 New Orleans sex crime-related calls

Source: CNN

The report is full of harrowing details alleging that five New Orleans Police Department detectives in the special victims unit may have failed to investigate sex crimes over a three-year period.

But one case stands out.

According to the seven-page document released Wednesday by the city's Office of Inspector General, a 2-year-old was brought to a hospital emergency room after an alleged sexual assault. Tests would show the toddler had a sexually transmitted disease, the report said.

The detective in the case wrote in his report that the 2-year-old "did not disclose any information that would warrant a criminal investigation and closed the case," the inspector general's report said.

WTH did those so-called 'detectives' think they were supposed to be doing?

It looks like they missed 75 cases each per year for 3 years.
They covered 179 sex crimes with supplemental work, indicating they tried to deal with approximately 12 cases per year per cop.

Five NOPD detectives have been transferred to street patrol and are under internal investigation after the city's inspector general found they systematicall

failed to investigate and document allegations of sexual assault and child abuse.

The detectives wrote no investigative reports for 86 percent of the 1,290 sexual-assault or child-abuse calls they were collectively assigned to investigate from 2011 through 2013, according to the inspector general's report. Two of their supervisors have also been transferred and are under investigation as well.
SNIP....NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said internal investigators will determine if the detectives' apparent neglect of duty rose to the level of discipline or criminal charges...".
I think criminal charges should be strongly considered. sorry about the weird formatting

'detective D said he did not believe simple rape should be a crime'. He would do well in the republican party where Ted Cruz is their head scientist.

to one case a week per detective.

Now - it is in part a management problem - my guess is that given court appearances, there should be at least another 5 detectives assigned. What I'd like to know is if there are other detectives in the same unit, and what they've been doing.

doing nothing for years and not only getting paid for it, but Allowing ongoing abuse by failing to take action.

They should be publicly exposed as well as fired.

They've got to be fucking kidding me with that. That is the bigged dumb fuck thing I've read in a long time - and I've read things said by Ben Carson and Ted Cruz just today.

Are they fucking kidding?

What 2 year old can disclose much of anything let alone keep themselves upright and not falling down when they run? Those cops are worthless.

Just when you think you could not be more appalled by what a police department did (or didn't), do, something like this is made public. WTF were they doing with their time if not their fucking jobs? And why did it take so long for anyone to notice that very few cases were going to court? I guess corruption and apathy are part of the NOPD SOP. Shocking, but not shocking.
