NEW YORK (AP) The Energy Department now predicts the average price of gasoline will be below $3 a gallon in 2015. The dramatically lower estimate will save U.S. consumers and the economy more than $60 billion if it holds true.
The department's Energy Information Administration predicts in its most recent short-term energy outlook, released Wednesday, that drivers will pay $2.94 per gallon on average in 2015, 45 cents lower than this year.
Based on current gasoline consumption, that's a savings of $61.1 billion.

(8,445 posts)Since the 80s, Saudi Arabia has been our On/Off oil switch to counter the interests of other petro-states, especially the USSR/Russia. Nowadays, with fracking, the US and Saudis can work in tandem.
Unfortunately its reckless towards the environment to do this, and when you exploit relatively short-lived fracking sources this way you set the world up for an oil price shock when they run out.

(6,994 posts)the Teabagger Republicans will us that as a reason for the lower gas prices.
And those Teabagger voters will believe this since it will be drilled into their Teabagger mind.
Just like now, since the Tea Party was formed the Teabaggers are now convinced that the sun rises in the West
