Mark Assini (R) concedes race to Rep. Louise Slaughter

Rep. Louise Slaughter declared victory in her tight Congressional race on Election Day.

On Wednesday, it became official.

Monroe County election commissioners spent more than two hours scanning 2,804 ballots that had yet to be counted to affirm that the 14-term Democrat had beaten her Republican challenger, Gates Supervisor Mark Assini, by a margin of 869 votes.

The final tally was 96,800 votes for Slaughter and 95,931 for Assini.

Neither candidate showed up at the county Board of Elections headquarters for the count. Slaughter was on Capitol Hill, while Assini stayed in Gates, where he mended fences between constituents
