Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani claimed that attention focused on disproportionately white police forces in minority-heavy communities obscured the problem of black-on-black violence, which got a rise out of professor and MSNBC contributor Michael Eric Dyson, who argued Giuliani was engaged in a massive false equivalency.

“First of all, most black people who commit crimes against other black people go to jail,” Dyson said. “Number two, they are not sworn by the police department as agents of the state to uphold the law….White people who kill black people do not go to jail.”

At that point Giuliani took off his glasses, which apparently is his sign that it’s time to rumble. “[Black on black crime] is the reason for the heavy police presence in the black community,” Giuliani claimed. “Why don’t you cut it down so so many white police officers don’t have to be in black areas?… The white police officers wouldn’t be there if you weren’t killing each other.”

“This is the defensive mechanism of white supremacy in your mind,” Dyson said.

The vast majority of white people who are killed are killed by white people. However, there does not seem to be a large police presence in white communities. In addition, white people are, at lest, just as likely to use drugs as black people. It is possible that white people are more likely to use drugs than black people. However, black people are far more likely to be arrested for drug crimes. It may also be the case that when white people are arrested for drug crimes they are given lighter sentences than black people. The way black people are treated in America has very little, if anything, to do with the amount of crimes committed by black people.

I wish Dyson had responded to Giuliani with that, and this very thing also — most white people that are killed are killed by other white people. Likewise most Latinos killed are kill by Latinos, and so on with Asians, etc.

Guiliani and other racists always come up with this tired argument when anyone with any sense knows that killers kill those in closest proximity to them, and that would be others of their ethnicity. That's no secret. I was hoping Dyson wouldn't let him get away with that.

Dyson responded with some good things but if Giuliani was going to go where he did, Dyson could have come bac with something about needing cops in the white community to stop these mass killings by whites in movie theaters and schools.

Giuliani is still the same divisive a hole he's always been, and he's an adulterer as well. I lived in New York when he openly flaunted his other woman in public while his wife and children were still living in Gracie Mansion, the mayor's official residence.

Most murder victims are killed by people of the same ethnicity because of proximity — white killers murder whites, Latino murderers kill Latinos, Asian killers kill Asians — get it? It's not rocket science.

And all your so-called statistics have more to do with economic class of the victims than race.

The crime rate for middle class and affluent blacks is just about identical as that of middle class and affluent whites, meaning that the sort of crimes your bs statistics target are done by a demographic of economically deprived people — that holds true for blacks, whites, Latinos, etc.

And how about this, nowhere in your statistics do you talk about the 90 some percent rate of mass school, work place and theater killers being white males. Where's that in your statistics?

ETA: 2012 UCR data (crosstab of race of victim x race of offender) show that where known, 83.6% of white victims were killed by white offenders and 91.1% of black victim were killed by black offenders. IOW, white-on-white homicide is pretty common too.
