UPDATE: 6 a.m., Nov. 26, 2014
Hundreds of protesters in San Diego took to the streets Tuesday night, demonstrating in response to a Missouri grand jury's decision not to charge a white police officer for the shooting death of an unarmed 18-year-old black man.
There were two evening protests, one in City Heights and the second in downtown San Diego. The City Heights protesters began marching from the City Heights/Weingart Library and Performance Annex in the 3700 block of Fairmount Avenue and briefly made their way onto the northbound lanes of state Route 15 at University Avenue, where they blocked freeway traffic.
The California Highway Patrol closed the freeway at that location about 8:15 p.m. because of the demonstration. About half an hour later, the CHP said the lanes were open but the on- and off-ramps remained closed.

Protesters shut down north I-5 in La Jolla
Demonstrators had twice blocked a freeway in City Heights Tuesday night

LA JOLLA A group of demonstrators briefly shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Nobel Drive in La Jolla Wednesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol got the first call about the protest around 6:49 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Tommy Doerr. Dozens of people could be seen on the freeway. At 7:18 a.m., CHP officers began to clear the group off the freeway and the lanes were reopened a few minutes later.
Several dozen people, some carrying signs saying "Hands up, don't shoot," were protesting in response to a grand jury decision not to indict a police officer in the fatal shooting of Missouri teenager Michael Brown.
Similar protests shut down a freeway in City Heights Tuesday night.
CHP officers said no traffic was able to get through during the demonstration, which caused a major backup on the freeway.

(27,509 posts)3. Channel 5 was covering it live
by helicopter, and then on the ground as the protestors marched into La Jolla.
But I can't find a news article link on their website.
They stream their news broadcast live and will have some updates: http://www.fox5sandiego.com

Protesters block I-5 during rush hour

SAN DIEGO Dozens of UCSD students brought traffic to a halt on northbound Interstate 5 Wednesday morning to protest the decision of a grand jury in Ferguson, Mo., not to indict a white policeman for killing an unarmed black teenager.
A crowd of an estimated 50 to 70 protesters marched onto the freeway at Nobel Drive at about 6:49 a.m., blocking the northbound lanes. They remained in the roadway for about 40 minutes until San Diego police arrived and removed them.
The protesters left the freeway peacefully and began marching on surface streets. There were no immediate reports of arrests.
<snip>
Many of the protesters were students at UCSD. They said that they decided to block the freeway to make people pay attention to what they see as a pattern of institutional violence against black people in the U.S.
What led to this demonstration is the fact that every 28 hour a black person is killed by a police officer, a security guard or a vigilante, and its very unlawful, UCSD student Brilon Cooper said. Most often these black people who are murdered are unarmed and their killers go free.
