FERGUSON, Mo.Local police Sunday reported two arrests of protesters overnight in the wake of the resignation of the police officer who shot to death an 18-year-old last summer that sparked demonstrations around the country and protest and riots in this St. Louis suburb.
The resignation on Saturday came five days after violent clashes with police, widespread looting and destructive arson in Ferguson where the deceased teen Michael Brown lived.
Officer Darren Wilson wrote in his resignation letter that he was told that my continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the City of Ferguson at risk, which is a circumstance that I cannot allow. His attorney said in a television interview Sunday that Mr. Wilson left the department because the officer was told Saturday that there was a threat against the members of his police department if he stayed in his job.
Mr. Wilson, 28 years old, said for obvious reasons, he wished to wait until a local county grand jury reached its decision not to indict him on Monday before leaving the police department. His actions on Aug. 9 sparked nationwide debate over whether Mr. Wilson had acted too aggressively against Mr. Brown who he said struggled with the officer during a routine stop that turned violent. Mr. Wilson said in grand jury testimony he acted to protect himself from Mr. Brown who attacked the officer and tried to take his gun.

(15,237 posts)Obviously a perceived threat played a role where an out of control policeman confronted and killed an unarmed teenager. I am sure threats of many kinds have been in the Ferguson Police Department for a long time.
