ELIZABETH A video shows an upset William Parisio pleading to be left in his cell in the Union County jail, according to a lawyer for Parisio's family. When the obviously fearfully inmate refuses to come out, the video shows officers in helmets and tactical gear rushing into the cell, the lawyer said.
You see a young man just scared and pathetic, begging not to be taken out, said the attorney, Anthony Macri of Parsippany, who is representing Parisio's mother, Diane McKernan.
Macri said the video of the February incident shows six officers holding Parisio down and restraining him with a belt across his chest, an assault that cut off the 25-year-old inmates airway and stopped his breathing, ultimately killing him.
Today, Macri announced that the mother has filed suit against the jail and Union County, accusing the officers of using excessive force and failing to recognize that Parisio stopped breathing, delaying efforts to resuscitate him. Macri said he and a physician he hired have seen the video, but the attorney does not yet have a copy of it. The officers, Macri said, were trying to get Parisio to a meeting with a psychiatrist.

(10,998 posts)All "security" personnel are being trained to be violent. It is an organized training program. We must stop the use of these training programs in order to stop the killing.
We must replace these violent programs with compassionate programs.
No one heals without compassion.
