Biden: Killing of US hostage in Yemen 'despicable'
Source: AP-Excite
WASHINGTON (AP) Vice President Joe Biden said Saturday the U.S. will be "relentless" in its efforts to bring the killers of an American photojournalist to justice.
The death of Luke Somers was a "despicable crime," Biden said during his address to a conference on U.S.-Israeli relations.
President Barack Obama said in a written statement earlier Saturday that Somers was killed by al-Qaida-linked terrorists who had been holding him hostage in Yemen during a U.S. military rescue operation.

(10,575 posts)A suspected US drone strike in Yemen killed nine alleged al-Qaida militants early on Saturday, a security official said, as authorities continue their search for an American photojournalist held by the extremists.
The drone struck at dawn in Yemens southern Shabwa province, hitting a suspected militant hideout, the official said. The official did not elaborate and spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to brief journalists.
