Fast-growing IT offshore outsourcing firms are major usersJanuary 27, 2012 05:53 AM ET
Computerworld - Offshore outsourcing companies continued to make up the majority of the top 10 H-1B visa users in 2011, according to new government data. These offshore firms have been adding employees by the thousands as their revenues increase.
Cognizant, a New Jersey-based IT services provider with major operations overseas, led the list. The company had 4,222 initial or new visas approved and 1,493 renewal petitions.
Google was last on the list, with 383 new H-1B visas and 232 renewals.
Offshoring is showing signs of being a major political issue this year, but opinions remain divided.

(3,270 posts)The L-1 intra-company transferee visa allows "executives, managers" (L-1a), and "employees with specialized skills" (L-1b) to transfer from the foreign company to a U.S. office, subsidiary, or affiliated company to perform temporary services.
L-1 visas are granted initially for 1 to three years with extensions available in three-year increments, with a total stay not to exceed seven years.
These visas carry an approval turnaround of 30-60 days.
The spouse and children under 21 are allowed to accompany the L-1 visa holder during the period of the transferee status. Spouses and Children are under the classification of L-2 visa.
Here is a better description of this type of visa: http://www.competeamerica.org/advocacy/L1-visa
The L-1 visa is very easy to get approved because the only stipulation is that the company must claim that the employee has been working for their company for 12 months prior to the application. The US government cannot validate these claims.
