Israel Rejects US Request On Ebola Relief In Africa
Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon says assisting in medical relief in Liberia and Sierra Leone would risk infecting Israeli personnelBy JTA October 3, 2014
Israel, citing health considerations, turned down a request from the United States to assist in medical relief in Ebola-stricken West African countries.
Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon rejected the request, which first came to the Foreign Ministry from Samantha Power, the US envoy to the United Nations, Ynet reported on Wednesday.
Yaalon said it would risk infecting Israeli medical teams and the army troops that would secure them, according to Ynet. Israels assistance was sought in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
In the request, Power cited Israels past successes in providing medical relief in disaster-stricken areas.

it really is a big risk for the people that would be going, and I can't hold it against any nation that steps back from that risk.

And don't you think the Israelis maybe owe us one?

(25,699 posts)8. That's our decision to make
And the Israelis owe the US quite a bit, but I wouldn't demand they send people into an ebola hot zone to pay it off.
