PBS's Gwen Awful being typically snarky in interview of Wasserman - Schultz
Gwen Awful OPENED her post election interview of Debbie Wasserman Schultz in usual Awful Punk style, by asking Wasserman-Schultz:
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/moving-midterm-losses-whats-next-democratic-leadership/
GWEN IFILL: Nancy Pelosi said in an interview today that this was not a GOP wave, but an ebb tide for the Democrats. Which is worse?
In my imagination, I picture Schultz giving Awful an answer in kind: "Well, unlike you Gwen, we Democrats don't like taking it in the rear from the GOP. But of course, being part of Corporate Media, that's in your job description isn't it?
A couple questions later Awful asked Schultz:
PBS: But you said now and before that you are right on the issues, but its not translating. What is not translating? What are Democrats doing wrong?
DEBBIE WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: Well, thats exactly why we need to take a good, hard look at what are the structural deficits that we have, where we have an electorate that goes in a presidential election and votes for our presidential candidate, embraces our partys agenda and our message, and then two years later doesnt feel motivated to go to the polls and support candidates that are going to help implement that agenda?
They are supporting us on the issues. Theyre just not there is a disconnect on them actually getting out and voting for our candidates in midterms. And we have got to take a really deep dive on what the problem is.
I wish Wasserman - Schultz had put it a little bit more directly, maybe something like:
"They are supporting us on the issues. Theyre just not there is a disconnect
.... the voters don't seem to realize that the Democrats are with them on the issues. Somehow the voters seem seriously misinformed.. Say Ms. Awful, you're in the media. YOu perform on a news show. How do you figure the voters don't know the Democrats are on their side on the issues? How is they don't know the GOP has been fighting us on every issue where we are trying to get something done. I don't think they know the GOP has set records for filibustering legislation during this Democratic administration. How could it be they don't even know what would seem to be a newsworthy fact as that?
...I would describe the way Awful questioned Wasserman - Schultz as punk journalism. It certainly wasn't professional: "...which is worse." Yeah, Ms. Awful you play the punk well. The GOP will reward you for it I'm sure, but maybe you get your own satisfaction out of being an ass.
I plan to write a letter - yes, a letter to the local PBS station and tell them why I'm not kicking in anymore when they have their next membership drive.

(41,118 posts)and more over the last six years is very troubling. When I mention consolidation of the corporate media to some open minded people they're clueless; very difficult to convince them of what's happened, and alternative news is not so accessible. I can remember Gwen Ifill as fairly prominent in 2008, hosting the Pres. debates and taking flack about her book and Obama. What change for her, PBS and others in the corporate mainstream and a loss for the public. Understatement. Good luck with the letter to your local station.

Darth Vader and John Edwards. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/debatereferee/debate_1005.html
She asked Edwards a question on Israel.. After he gave a substantive answer ....
she turned to Darth and said: "Did you hear anything about Israel in there?" -- speaking to Darth Vader!!! My understanding of moderating a debate was that you were supposed to STAY OUT OF THE DEBATE YOURSELF and NOT join one side versus the other.
... this of course does NOT show up in the transcript.
She then asked DArth Vader for his response to her question.
After Darth Vader gave his answer, Awful turned to Edwards saying: "Senator Edwards, it's your turn to use 30 seconds for a complicated response... " (this is 44:40 into the videotape here:
a couple responses later she further said to Darth: "IFILL: It goes to the Senator. I see you. I just asked him about Israel, even though he didn't actually talk about it much. " (note in the transcript it has "we didn't talk about it much" if you go to 45:40 in the videotape " target="_blank">here you'll hear Awful say: "he didn't talk about it much"
Where-upon Edwards spoke up for himself, saying: "EDWARDS: No, I did talk about it, Israel. He's the one who didn't talk about it."
How shameful that one participant in the debate had to debate the other candidate plus the moderator!!
.... again, Ms Awful was taking part in the debate (I guess she was hoping for a spot in the next GOP administration).
The behavior of Awful in this debate was outrageous and obviously unprofessional. She is clearly is no journalist. She's a very dedicated sycophant of the GOP.

(6,436 posts)you've shown an overweening interest in the prurient, the sensational, the lurid. Pretending you are possessed of the sensibilities of a debutante isn't going to fool anybody. You will find a much more receptive audience for your unseemly interest in the perverse on the conservative web sites you are undoubtedly used to posting on. Here, that sort of thing is just regarded, contemptuously, as repulsive.
