Obamacare repeal falls off Republicans' to-do list as law takes hold

April 18, 2015

After five years and more than 50 votes in Congress, the Republican campaign to repeal the Affordable Care Act is essentially over.

GOP congressional leaders, unable to roll back the law while President Obama remains in office and unwilling to again threaten a government shutdown to pressure him, are focused on other issues, including trade and tax reform.

Less noted, senior Republican lawmakers have quietly incorporated many of the law's key protections into their own proposals, including guaranteeing coverage and providing government assistance to help consumers purchase insurance.

And although the law remains very unpopular with GOP voters, more than 20 million Americans now depend on it for health benefits, making even some of the most conservative Republicans loath to cut off coverage.

1. Can we say we knew it was going to be a good thing once it was started.

I would bet Obama knew this also. Now, how long will the GOP continue to call it Obamacare?

Over the last year especially I have heard "Affordable Care Act" or just "ACA" bled in to the discussion more and more on Fox News and RW radio. Too late. I've personaly said "Obamacare" because everyone knew it was going to work.

If you actually thought there was any danger of repeal, how many bridges have you bought over the years?

8. You cannot possibly believe these votes were for real

Forget about the fact that it's Gingrinch's plan. You honestly think that the insurance lobby would let a bunch of crackpots take away a multi-billion dollar windfall, that they (the lobbyists) themselves wrote? They would cut Boner off at the knees if anything happens to this golden goose.

The votes were a hoax, designed to get the drooling limbeciles all worked up for the midterm. They're even more clueless than the pseudodems who think this is healthcare.

I honestly cannot believe some of the ravings I read at DU. You have got to squeeze your eyes together really tight to miss what's happening.

10. I do believe you misunderstand me..they ( Republicans) knew Americans would not tolerate

such a vote even if they could pull it off..they did play the song they would for the
small percent that believed it was a useless measure but most Americans support it.

What you're talking about, is Obamacare the essence of single payer, no..it is not.

Considering the wide support for single payer at the time, Americans
accept Obamacare as a step in the right direction.

Ron Pollack, executive director of the health consumer advocacy group Families USA, said the poll results are "consistent with what we have seen with other data."

"The majority of Americans do not want to see the Affordable Care Act repealed," Pollack said. "There's a clear majority who do not want to see this legislation repealed, and that includes those who don't want to see the subsidies that make health coverage affordable taken away."

Pollack said the general opposition to the ACA appears to be driven largely by dislike of Obama, who points to the health-reform law as one of the highlights of his administration.

What the hell, why would tea party loyalists support these assklowns now, now that they have capitulated?

Oh, and they didn't lower their income taxes, either!!
Or abolish the IRS.
Or close down the Department of Education!
Or close down the Department of Energy!
Or close down the EPA!

Gawd almighty, they didn't do one damn thing they said they were going to do, if re-elected to office!
