Weekend At Bernie's
By Bob Englehart
Independent Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont has it all; the experience, temperament, knowledge, and a Vermont snowballs chance in a Washington, D.C., summer of being the next president. He says all the right things, knows whats wrong with America and knows how to fix it. Unfortunately, the American voter doesnt consider that stuff ... We all remember the last independent to run for president of the United States ... Lets face it, it was 11 years ago, long before a lot of computer stuff was invented and thats really whats important. Computer stuff. But Ive wandered off topic because my attention span has been severely damaged from overexposure to information lit from behind, the cool glow of digital magic ... He has a website, http://www.sanders.senate.gov/ and on it he says all the right things. Well, thats a start. Its the end, too.

(8,352 posts)First, Sanders will be running as a Democrat in the Democratic Primary.
Second, if he wins the Primary, he will be running as a Democrat in the General Election.
So saying that Sanders is running as an Independent and that didn't work in the General 11 years ago is factual wrong and purposefully ignorant.
This is a hit piece disguised as practical concern.

(26,219 posts)What independent ran for POTUS in 2004 before all that innertubes and computer stuff was "invented"?

(30,099 posts)Nader is a five-time candidate for President of the United States, having run as a write-in candidate in the 1992 New Hampshire Democratic primary, as the Green Party nominee in 1996 and 2000, and as an independent candidate in 2004 and 2008.

Wonder why the hit piece didn't reference the 2000 election but singled out 2004? That would have made a ton more sense as other than John Anderson and Ross Perot, that would have been the only election in recent memory that was truly impacted by a third party.

Gotta love primary 'season'.
