Hoyer: GOP blocking payroll tax bill to sink the economy

The Republicans are taking aim at the recovery again. The recent improvement in the Unemployment rate and indicators showing manufacturing employment is up, must have the Repugnants worried. With the November elections in mind, they've got to do MORE to sabotage this recovery. HOw else can they say Obama is screwing up the Trickle Down Depression (...er.... the economy). (If nothing else they can throw an additional scare into the stock market and perhaps sink the DOW for a few weeks).

Hoyer: GOP blocking payroll tax bill to sink the economy - The Hill

{all emphases are my own_Bill USA}

Hoyer noted that GOP leaders initially rejected the payroll tax holiday as "sugar-high economics," then changed course only because of the popularity of the measure.

"When a party that has its leadership saying, 'We don't like this idea,' then says, 'The reason we're not getting it done is the Democrats are delaying,' that's a tough sell. … If you're not for it, tell the American people you're not for it," Hoyer said.

Hoyer also pointed out that Republicans, as their first major act after 2010's wave elections, extended the Bush-era tax cuts — including those on the wealthiest Americans — without offsetting the cost.

"If this were a tax cut for millionaires," Hoyer said of the payroll tax holiday, "it would fly through here like greased lightening – without a pay-for."

Cannot see the two faced, duplicitous, and egocentric nature of the GOP is beyond my comprehension.

point out that the GOP have been quite happy to give the wealthiest (those whose incomes have gone up dramatically over the last decade) tax CUTS - WITHOUT any pay-fors - while they say pay-fors are necessary when the Dems propose the Payroll tax cuts - and that the Dems are reckless re the Deficit while they, the Repugnants, are not reckless by adamantly opposing (in deference to Grover Norquist) any efforts to return those in the higher tax brackets to the rates they paid before the Trickle Down - Deregulation Disaster. Even a return to pre TRICKLE DOWN rates for just those with annual incomes of a million dollars they are ready to sacrifice the economy for (as long as they can blame the economic consequences on Obama).

The inconsistency in their positions are never pointed out by the M$M servicers of the GOP and millions who follow this political 'House to house' battling only half-heartedly find it all very confusing. This tends to induce in the casual observers, a degree hopeless indifference. This is what the relentless, irrational opposition and despicable personal assaults of the GOP against anyone or anything that smacks of progress does to people.

That's why I think it's so important for those who do try to follow what is going on, to try to explain it all the casual, part - time (once every four years) observers.

of their positions - over time. This does cause many people - who do not follow these battles closely - to give up trying to make any sense out of anything going on in D.C. They conclude that none of what is going on makes ANY sense and give up trying to understand it. The fact is, unless you really follow closely (as really only the internet enables you to do) this will happen to most people. This can only please the GOP.

It's like watching the scene in the Marx Bros movie where they are in this tiny little room on board a ship and everybody starts crowding into their room - visitors, waiters with room service, cleaning people. It's nuts. And that's what the REpublicans are doing with proceedings in Washington. Just turning it into an circus. And that's just fine with them. IF nothing gets done, great! If people give up following what's happening in DC, great!
