If you’re resistant to the removal of Confederate statues on Monument Avenue or the Confederate memorial in Portsmouth, you can relax.

If you’re among the growing ranks open to rethinking how and where we commemorate the Confederacy, the General Assembly is taking matters out of your hands.

On Monday, the Senate approved a bill that strips localities of the authority to decide whether to dismantle or relocate Confederate monuments within their boundaries.
