Another State Joins The Republican Transvaginal War On Women

Another State Joins The Republican Transvaginal War On Women

We women are told to relax about the War on Women, because of course, the fight is over. Virginia will not be shoving a state-mandated and medically unnecessary condom clad tranducer up every woman’s vaginal canal who wants an abortion. Wow, what a win.

Not so fast.

They’ve moved on to Pennsylvania now. While the national boys natter on about how birth control is evil on the GOP Presidential stage, their cohorts and whispered VP hopefuls (Virginia’s McDonnell) are busy trying to shove state mandated transvaginal ultra-sounds up women’s vaginas.

Perhaps if you’ve never had a transvaginal ultrasound, this only sounds intrusive. But I can assure you, it is in fact often quite painful. Imagine you had a muscle that only opened to give birth and once a month to let the lining of your innards shred, both of which caused significant pain, the former being likened to passing a kidney stone but worse.

they complain about "obamacare" bureaucrats deciding who lives and who dies and then they decide bureaucrats should mandate state rape??

and even then, it's just the top marginal personal income tax rate that matters.

even if it doesn't apply!

I think a significant number of 'pro lifers' would be in favor of waterboarding the poor woman in order to 'educate' her to keep her fetus. Or this:

I was going to say quite a few things, about violence against women, about commodification of women, about generalizations like male aggression and female pacifism......

but it's just too much. (and truisms about male and female characteristics and how patriarchy builds on those foundations might get me flamed)

Update: Similar bills are being presented in many states, including but not limited to Alaska and Illinois.

Is this another one of the states that Koch Bros bought governors for?

Is there a list somewhere?

We should start keeping track of the anti-union, anti-blue collar, anti-womens rights legislation coming from those states since the start of the Koch Bros move on US gov't.

It seems to be a coordinated attack by the GOP on women. Where did these ideas come from?

Think of it this way: If your goal was to really reduce abortion, what would you do?

* Easy access to free/cheap contraception for people who don't want kids
* Exhaustive Sex Ed in schools so everyone knows how to use contraception properly
* Easy access to free/cheap daycare for those that have kids so they can work
* Huge increases in programs like WIC so that it's not possible for kids to be unaffordable.

What do anti-abortion groups actually support?

* No contraception
* No Sex Ed
* No daycare
* Cut welfare/WIC.

It doesn't take a genius to realize they aren't really out to stop abortion. What they are out to do is shackle women.

In fact, the anti-contraception position has been right below the surface for a couple decades. What's new is the right as become so insular they believe anti-contraception is a winning political position, so they're open about it now.

which is part of the overall increasingly christofascist agenda of the Repukes.

5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.

This is expensive equipment and requires a radiologist to interpret the exam also....I am not clear on what kind of exam they expect to do pre abortion. This is just crazy stuff that no one on the RW has thought out. What kind of exam is being done, is it medical, or is some sort of imaginary intimidation to convince the woman not to have the abortion??

These people on the right do not demonstrate medical knowledge enough to have thought this through. A pelvic exam and vaginal ultrasound are invasive procedures that require skill--and there are standards in place for the use and interpretation of sonograms.

These people are really morons--and women should not tolerate this kind of treatment. Ever.

and didn't do a damn thing about it. Tom Corbett let children be molested by Jerry Sandusky by doing nothing to stop him...and by actually stonewalling the investigation.

Children, women. Do you think the Republicans in this state care about protecting ANYONE from harm and pain?
