How Should Hillary Clinton Choose a Running Mate? Start With Chemistry.

'Ambitious Democrats like Mr. Booker have started to audition as their presumptive presidential nominee considers who should join her on the national ticket. There is much for Mrs. Clinton to consider, including competence, agreement on policy and geography. Yet Mrs. Clinton’s advisers and those who have gone through the process emphasize an equally important, if more elusive, quality: chemistry.

Mrs. Clinton needs a No. 2 who can ease into the insular and often distrusting Clinton orbit. And a running mate whose company Mrs. Clinton genuinely enjoys could help present a joyful picture to voters, after a primary season that was sometimes dreary. “When the chemistry works, it communicates enthusiasm and a team and the likelihood of success and progress,” said Michael Feldman, who was an aide to former Vice President Al Gore. “But it can’t be an arranged marriage with someone she meshes well with on paper,” he added. “It very much has to be real.”

Mrs. Clinton’s aides began collecting information last week on as many as 10 candidates. James Hamilton, a Washington lawyer who is overseeing the vetting, will begin meeting with candidates as early as this week.

Senior Democrats, thinking about both the fall election and a potential re-election in four years, said the right choice would stir up enthusiasm on the campaign trail, enhancing Mrs. Clinton’s strengths while not outshining her or overtaking events.'>>>

Or will be leaving office at the end of this year for whatever reason (other than criminal). Tired of having to defend seats or offices currently held by democrats. Just like Obama/Biden which resulted in having to find good candidates to run for their seats in the Senate, along with holding the seats. Next I feel they should have a solid background of defending the people, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual preference, etc. They should believe in exhausting all peaceful means before going to war. A major requirement is they need to be someone who can step into the role of President and be a leader, if something were to prevent the President from discharging their duties. They should also be a good advisor who looks at issues from all sides.

the only person mentioned at-all who fits that criterion that I can think of that will have the desired effect in boosting Hillary's electability is Martin O'Malley...and I don't think they like each other all that much.

He's exactly who she needs though...a skilled partisan who appeals to progressives and is adept at doing the kind of political hit-work needed to ding-up Trump while allowing Hillary to remain above it and looking Presidential.

Now, if they only didn't seem to dislike each other. I think being both external and hostile to the Clinton orbit is a desirable trait though...it can only help in selling Hillary to progressives prone to distrusting her.
