Toles Rant: Treason Season

By Tom Toles

Apparently the zone of legitimate debate in the GOP world includes accusing the president of treason. Newt Gingrich felt perfectly free to indulge in such in Arizona, and anticipate that neither the audience nor the other debaters would object in any way. Cue the tape: Gingrich: “This is an administration which, as long as you’re America’s enemy, you’re safe.” Well there you go, if you like it in a large dose. Thanks for supersizing that Newt.

We spotted trouble for one of our enemies in Pakistan. Osama bin Laden could not be sure he was safe in Pakistan; it’s an unstable country! But he didn’t have to worry with Obama in the White House! If you’re America’s enemy, you’re safe! Obama to the rescue! He sent in a team to airlift bin Laden to absolute safe sanctuary at the bottom of the ocean sealed in a protective bag with a supply of bullets. You don’t get much safer than that.

Statements such as Gingrich’s are apparently considered “ideas” in GOPland, and are so 100% completely at variance to the universally known facts as to be a chapter in the history of the world’s biggest lies, which might be a good subject for Newt’s next “big ideas” book. And if he needs another big idea, I might suggest that portraying an American president to the world in those terms is the real treason going on here.

...not to mention their media/mega contributors. They have done their best to make people hate the Obamas, but we can only hope there are enough sane people out there that will show them how wrong they are.

The problem is that so many people are working long hours and not able to keep up with what is happening but may pick up the tone with which they are using to ruin Obama's record. The Democrats need to fight back with each "slam" with the truth. There are plenty of reps and senators who can step up and defend Obama...it doesn't always have to be Obama or his campaign staff. That would be a full-time job.

Somebody better start fighting or we'll end up with Jeb!

Right after the 2008 election, when all of the right wing pundits (I mean lairs) began to shout out their hate filled rants against President Obama, my reaction was to write letters to The White House telling them that they better do something to contradict the assault that was being launched against them in the media, lest it all come back to bite them in the 2010 elections. Alas, they choose to ignore all of the Glen Becks and the Rush Limpdicks, as if it was beneath them to stoop to their level.

Remember the telephone that Glen Beck kept on the top of his desk as he intimated that he was waiting for a call from the administration to refute any of his claims against them? The implication was to infer that if the phone did not ring it meant that the administration agreed with his charges against them. Well, the phone never rang and then along came the elections in 2010 which gave the right wing everything they wanted, and more. If the administration had only listened to my advice our government would not have been entered into a stalemate for the last two years.

The Newt quote above is another example of Republican projection. The look at their own faults and assign them to someone else.
The fact is that President Obama removed the boogieman, the excuse they could use for endless war and oil profiteering.
A Republican in the White House will mean more wars, regardless of whom said Republican may be.

Many in my family are just plain nuts, now those same nuts are fanatically republican. Can someone tell me which comes first, insanity or republicanism?
Not being sarcastic at all I wish I knew.

i remember a paperback popular among the Birchers in the 60's... "none dare call it treason".. the term treason itself is a dogwhistle to those folks.. the book explained a lot of Communist inspired plots of the day.. such as the Ford Edsel.. those are dogs answering the whistle..
