Republicans Have Awoken A Sleeping Giant And She Is Furious
When evangelicals targeted the Girl Scouts for not being aligned with the message of the church and for a perceived, but fallacious alliance between World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and Planned Parenthood, they were not just assailing contraception. One Republican from Indiana claimed Girl Scouts promoted homosexual lifestyles and although there is no truth to the Planned Parenthood connection or promoting homosexuality, it is stunning that the claims were made in the first place. It is sad, but an accusation from a male Republican carries weight with pathetic evangelicals and the effect was evident when a 10-year-old Girl Scout in Virginia experienced a woman who told her, We dont support Girl Scouts because they support abortion, which kills babies. The young scout told her mother Mommy, something creepy happened to me and true to her age, had no knowledge of abortion and was upset to be associated with baby killers.
The assault on Girl Scouts shows the level extremist evangelicals and conservatives are willing to go to in their push to impose the churchs edicts on women regardless of their age. The false accusation against Girl Scouts started a movement among evangelicals to remove their daughters from Girl Scouts and enroll them in the American Heritage Girls Christian organization whose goal is the dedication of the adult leadership to Christian ministry through this organization with these girls. The groups mission statement is character development for young women that embraces Christian values and encourages family involvement. Christian values is code for obedient women subservient to the male-dominant patriarchy that controls this country, and Republicans record of restricting womens role in society falls in line with Christian values. It is not coincidence that the assault on women starts with poor women and in the case of Girl Scouts, very, very young women.
The Republicans fighting to restrict access to contraception regardless of President Obamas compromise giving religious organizations an exemption is aimed at lower-income women, but no woman is safe. This ridiculous movement to ban contraception for all women is more about control than imposing the Catholic ban on birth control. It is noteworthy that Rick Santorum promises that if elected president, he will embark on a preaching campaign to ban contraception to force all women to stay home, slave for their man, and produce more little evangelical extremists. It is bad enough evangelicals are promoting this Dark Ages philosophy, but the Republicans in Congress have allowed evangelical religious leaders to affect legislation controlling women.

I really don't understand how you related that to a woman's choice concerning reproductive rights.
Perhaps you'd care to explain.

This notion that women are morally superior than men is just the same old sexist stereotypes about the "fairer sex", just spun in a different way.

(2,737 posts)you made an "oopsie", perhaps you would like to answer my reply to your mis-direction post.
I will repeat - your first post responded to the OP with, and I quote "And women are all pure and peaceful? Oh, Please."
What does that have to do with women's reproductive choices? Please stay on topic and answer if you are able.

My point is that female reproductive choices should not be left to government or legistlation.
I think that this little side-bar between us has gotten off track.
Do you believe what I've stated regarding the original op is correct or do you disagree?

Please spare me of the hatred towards the male gender. Pardon me for maintaining an XY chromosome on my 23rd chromosomal pair.
Please remember that not all men are like those in the culture war. Some of us guys DO support free contraception, expanded daycare and welfare/WIC, etc. etc. etc.
I do agree with you that more women need to be in Congress, White House, state legislatures, etc. What is fair would be for about 50.5% of leaders be women, their proportion to the populace.
But it is quite unfair of you and the OP to assume that, if you are a man, you are inherently in support of male dominance. Some of us guys actually prefer to work with the ladies.

(1,412 posts)(not Santorum lol) are the one's that need to be removed. They hate women's sexuality, everything that has to do with pleasure. Out of touch completely.
Like Santorum, they only appeal to the right wing Evangelicals. Santorum's platform is the closest thing to fascism I have heard in many years
But where are all the progressive Democrats , someone to give balance and put up a good fight against the loony repubiks. I personally don't care if it's male or female, just advocate for us, that's why we elected you!.
GO OWS! You are the bright spot in this desolate landscape, you are paving the way for for a better future for the 99%. It's going to take time and lot's of work. Take it from an old hippie. Love ya all.

(26,549 posts)If your goal was to reduce or eliminate abortions, what would you do?
* Easy-to-get/Free contraception available to everyone so only women who want to become pregnant do so.
* Comprehensive Sex Ed for everyone in school, so they know how to use contraception
* Easy-to-get/Free daycare so people with children can easily work to support them
* Increased funding to programs like WIC so that no child is unaffordable
What do "pro-life" people support?
* No contraception
* No Sex Ed
* No daycare
* Cuts to WIC and welfare
They don't care about abortion. They don't care about Roe. They care about upity broads being put in their rightful place. "The poor little babies" is just marketing.

(7,392 posts)I deeply, personally hate Republicans. I mean, visceral hatred. Probably because of my varied experiences with what happens when they have had direct authority over me. I was supposed to be one of them -- white male, Southern heritage, Goldwater father -- and that is also probably a reason for my internal rage over their existence. I view them as un-American, dis-cooperative, anti-life, anti-earth, anti-human. Really, I don't think there's any group I hate more than conservative males, regardless of nationality or economic status. I grew up in Saudi Arabia, and I identify Islamic fundamentalism with Christian fundamentalism quite clearly -- interchangeable, except for the language.
But if I were a woman -- if I were a woman right now, in America --
I'd seriously think about serious action to remove them from the possibility of ever having any control over me. Permanently. Forever. Whatever it took.
My daughter is a Girl Scout. Proud of it. And if some yokel opened their trap and insulted her for it, they would find their front door kicked open, and their life in the balance.
I'm a peacenik hippie. But I am also my father's son, and I tend to let him out of me when confronted with That Crap.

(7,402 posts)Is just how many women "stand by their man" when they say such hateful, degrading things about women. For instance, a recent poll showed female support for Santorum on the upswing in the Republican race. I'm not sure if this was national or just Michigan and Arizona and whether it was just a shift from Gingrich to Santorum, but still.
