The White House Is Outraged Democrats Arent Giving Trumps Supreme Court Nominee A Chance

WASHINGTON ― White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said he found it quite “sad” that Senate Democrats are preparing to filibuster President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, without even considering his or her qualifications.

“He met with a bunch of Senate Democrats to talk about the qualities they want in a judge. And before they’ve even heard who this individual is, you’ve got some of them saying, ‘Absolutely no.’ That just shows you that it’s all about politics. It’s not about qualification,” Spicer told reporters in his daily briefing Monday.

“The president has a right to have his nominees taken up,” he added. “And so for them the default used to be, ‘unless qualified, confirmed.’ And it is now going to, ‘always no.’ I think that’s a pretty sad message.”

Senate Democrats are under heavy pressure from their base to oppose not just Trump’s Supreme Court pick ― which is set to be announced Tuesday night ― but the rest of his nominees up for confirmation.

On Monday, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) said he and the rest of his caucus will filibuster Trump’s nominee, meaning he or she will not be able to get confirmed without 60 votes ― which requires a few Democrats joining the GOP caucus.

I just wrote to both of my Senators Flake and McCain:

Senator:

I am dismayed, though not surprised, that Donald Trump* chose the most conservative and reactionary candidate to place in nomination. I DO NOT SUPPORT Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court of the United States. Further, Senator, I consider the Supreme Court seat to be STOLEN from the last legal and lawful President of the United States, Barrack Obama.

And speaking of the President of the United States, I consider Donald Trump* to be a Russian asset and likely a traitor. And I consider any actions taken by Donald Trump* to be null and void.

And finally Senator, as a long-term Arizona Democrat, I plan on vigorously supporting any and all attempts to return the State of Arizona to sanity and equal representation for all citizens of Arizona.

Sincerely,
*****

This seat was stolen. And Republicans never pay a price for their bad behavior. I say block this with every tool in the toolbox. (I would have been happier if Dems had fought for Obama's nominee with every tool in their toolbox. There had to be pressure points that would have gotten them to not obstruct his nominee for a year. I think Dems figured Hillary would eventually get to fill it. Didn't quite work out that way.)

That they will use the nuclear option. Just like it was for the Democrats, it's a risky move.

But they should have waited until the candidate was actually announced.

14. Did the Republicans wait before declaring they would oppose anyone President Obama nominated?

Answer: no, they didn't. Why should Democrats be held to a higher standard?

FWIW, I think they should have demanded that Trump renominate Merrick Garland the moment they heard Trump was going to announce his nominee. Nominating Garland would have been the Constitutional thing to do.

Ok not really. Seriously? The Republicans blocked Garland, there is no way Gorsuch should be confirmed. This guy is an extremist.

18. I think Senate Democrats should give Trump's nominee consideration.

Starting on December 07, 2017.

The Senate Republicans gave no consideration to Obama's nomination for 310 days - I imagine they will have no objections to the same time frame for Trump's nomination.
