NYT: One-Third Dont Know Obamacare and Affordable Care Act Are the Same

In the survey, 35 percent of respondents said either they thought Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act were different policies (17 percent) or didn’t know if they were the same or different (18 percent). This confusion was more pronounced among people 18 to 29 and those who earn less than $50,000 — two groups that could be significantly affected by repeal.

When respondents were asked what would happen if Obamacare were repealed, even more people were stumped. Approximately 45 percent did not know that the A.C.A. would be repealed. Twelve percent of Americans said the A.C.A. would not be repealed, and 32 percent said they didn’t know.

4. The Republicans coined it ''Obama Care'' let's not forget.

Actually it is "Romney Care" but I'm sure people are also too stupid to know this. It's all about attention span; real news vs entertainment. Entertainment always wins out. We have an enormous population of under educated adults in this country. I'm still trying to figure out how we got here. With Betsy Devos as head of the Dept. of Ed. I'm sure things will get much worse.

5. Hate to say it but

....this is the Democrat's fault. The roll out was bad and the explanation of the complicated terms of it was always turgid.

Repugs listen to their language guru---Frank Luntz.
But Dems won't listen to ours---George Lakoff.

We shouldn't, for example, let "regulations" be called "regulations"---but "protections".
Or let "entitlements' be called "entitlements"---they are "earned benefits".

Dems stay in reactive mode and let The Repugs frame the debate too often. Even Dems called it ObamaCare. Ironically it wasn't all that "Affordable" either for many people.

Should have been called "Care for Each Other Care".

I don't know if it was a case of hubris or what but Democrats, including Obama himself, began to use the moniker "Obamacare". I'm sure they believed that once it caught on, it would become popular, which for the most part it did.

Republicans came up with the nickname and the reason they did it was to make it stick to a Democratic president. Only their hubris was to believe it would be a colossal failure.

And so Democrats shrugged their shoulders and laughed and double downed their usage. I hardly even heard the full term the "Affordable Care Act" from Republicans OR Democrats.

But Democrats should have been pounding out the name that THEY called it, and for a reason. And not just the ACA, but the full name, over and over whenever they could. If it became a success, ironically it would have been only the Republicans giving all the credit to Obama. And Democrats would be associated with the term the Affordable Care Act.

7. Jimmy Kimmel did a Survey on The Street, asking people

which was better,The ACA or Obama Care? I think there was only one person that knew they were the same thing. The ignorance was sadly not surprising.
