Tension in DNC Race Coming from Outside Party
February 15, 2017 By Taegan Goddard
NBC News: A largely unspoken truth about the race to be the Democratic National Committees next chairman is that the major candidates agree on almost all the issues -at least the ones relevant to the job theyre pursuing They want to reinstate a 50-state strategy, focus more on organizing, establish greater transparency at the DNC and heal the wounds from the 2016 Democratic presidential primaries. Another truth: Many of the 447 DNC members who get to cast a vote for chairman later this month will be pleased if any of the frontrunners, especially Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) or former Labor Secretary Tom Perez, ends up winning.
Instead, most of the tension in the race is coming from Democrats and progressives outside the candidate field and DNC party membership, who view the contest as another proxy fight between Bernie Sanders and the so-called Democratic establishment, including Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Me.
(35,454 posts)But do know that Ellison trying to strike a deal with Buckley for his support didn't feel right to me. Until/unless he is elected Ellison is not in a position to make promises as to where people will be situated.

(15,365 posts)too many of us saw during the campaign: non-Democrats trying to remake the party in their own image, primarily for their own benefit.
Does the party need to grow and adapt? Yes. But does it need outsiders - who STILL remain outside the party - telling it how it should run its own political show? No.
Those who are sincere about making meaningful change within the party should join it, dig in and get invested and involved - instead of taking cheap and gratuitous pot shots all the while showing themselves to be shining examples of non-team players.
I would just like to remind people that the Democratic candidate DID win the Presidential election by nearly three million votes - after withstanding thirty years worth of slanders and outright lies, Russian hackers, fake news bots, and traitors like Comey. I believe that down-ticket races were lost in part because of the failure to rebuild state networks left floundering after the departure of Howard Dean. You cannot just have a political party rise up once every four years. There has to be an ongoing and meaningful effort to cultivate networks and resources even during the off-seasons. GOPers already have their reliably built-in networks of evangelical churches, among others.
The Democrats have the right message and they have a true multi-cultural base. They just have to get the message out there - through the fake news filters - and they need to fight like hell in DC right now to show that they really ARE an opposition party.

(39,405 posts)considerations.
If Democrats continue to take care of Wall Street and the whims of trust fund babies who want to do crap like privatize public schools, the party will die.
Keith Ellison probably knows this and some other candidates might too. The problem is, some of those voting would let the party die before they would betray their wealthy patrons.
