The Trump Experiment may come to an early tipping point
President Trumps astonishing and reckless accusation that he was wiretapped on orders from President Barack Obama should finally be the tipping point in how the country views him and his presidency.
Obama, through a spokesman, said the charges were simply false. On Sunday afternoon, the New York Times reported that FBI Director James Comey had asked the Justice Department to publicly reject Trumps claim. It appears that Trump issued his wild tweet storm Saturday morning largely on the basis of reports in conspiracy-minded right-wing media.
He signaled his lack of evidence first by reportedly pushing his White House staff to ransack sensitive intelligence information to find support for his claim. Then on Sunday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Trump wanted Congress to look into the matter and that the administration would offer no further comment.

(10,252 posts)That fool Trump wants to defund our weather satellites as part of his military refocusing. Is he under the impression that weather forecasts are not important to military planning? Think who all depends on weather forecasting: farmers and ranchers, business, transporters, ocean shipping, navy and coast guard, air force, air lines and private pilots, hurricane warnings, cities to plan for severe weather snow, sleet, floods. Now I'm pissed - really pissed.

The ones who scare me among his staff and advisors are the ones who are not idiots. People like Steve Bannon who is Dark-Side smart. Slick and shrewd, and sneaky as shit. Calculating as all-get-out. And who knows what kind of staff Steve Bannon has assembled around himself? More Breitbart goons? Alex Jones helping him pick any? What other vermin are crawling out from under the rocks and the slime and sludge to populate this White House?

(1,387 posts)I was reading tweets of some his supporters. They think Obama is going to prison -they are crowing about it.
One young woman said that she felt in her gut that Flynn was coming back, that Trump was holding him in reserve for some special purpose-she was ecstatic.
They believe that this is the defeat of the left.Obama's wiretapping of Trump is wholly discrediting of the left. They assume the majority of Americans feel this way.One posted 'It's Over !" as though the left has been vanquished at last.
This is truly cult like behavior.Pathetically sad and bone-chilling at the same time.God knows what is going to happen with these people when they realize none of this will happen.

You are spot on about the cult behavior, they will go down to the bottom of the ocean when his ship sinks.

He accused the former President of a serious crime...with no proof...and so I just am reminded that what if he said something about a foreign leader (like say of North Korea) or another unstable idiot like himself and that person responds with a crazy military attack and then Trump responds with the use of the launch codes? Seriously.....how could this kind of horror be stopped when this man could react at any moment and not be able to be reasoned with? Especially since it seems he does whatever he wants.

How long do you think they will be willing to put up with this before a 'President Pence' starts looking good to them and they go 25th Amendment on him?

(4,341 posts)No, the tipping point should be the Russia connections, that is treason, this is just libel, but not enough to bring the experiment down, I wish it were, but republicans have made worst accusations in the past and got away with it, not sure why this would be different.

We have seen one republican come out against it in the senate, that is it.
Meanwhile, some asshat who is on the committee in the House 45 is demanding look into has publicly said "sir, yes sir!"
NOTHING "breaks" until congressional republicans see what little (assuming there is any) light remains in their souls/conscience.

(8,964 posts)This why they tune in to the likes of Fox, Breitbart, Drudge, Levin, Limbaugh, Fakebook posts et al. Facts are summarily buried and fabrications emerge to quickly fill the gap. Given these people were deluded enough to vote for an utterly corrupt, lying, narcissistic and manifestly compromised Donald Trump, there is no story too preposterous for consumption, as long as it is compatible with rigid ideology and places declared enemies in their "rightful" lace.

And when it all comes crashing down around them they'll blame African-Americans, brown people, GLBT, women, Muslims and other non-Christians, immigrants, atheists - anyone and everyone but themselves and their need to cling to a time and place that never existed. No change there.
The Trump Experiment started out as a tipping point, from the beginning of his campaign until now.
I hope the change coming is for the good but ...we'll see.
