President Trump insists former President Barack Obama let General Michael Flynn keep his security clearance after firing him. There’s just one problem with that statement.

NBC News reporters are tweeting that President Donald Trump’s disgraced pick for National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who resigned in February, was never given broader security background clearance by former President Barack Obama’s administration than needed for his post.

Peter Alexander tweeted out this afternoon that NBC’s Intelligence and national security reporter Ken Dilanian had learned that the clearance was never part of any vetting for Flynn when the Obama administration sought security clearance from the former president.

This is an important update to allegations made by the Trump administration that have tried to shift blame of Flynn’s misdeeds to Obama. Flynn resigned from his post in February over allegations that he had improperly been in discussions with Russian agents about possibly lifting U.S. sanctions on the Kremlin, and had other financial dealings that he didn’t disclose prior to assuming the role of National Security Adviser.

At least he didn't have access to secrets, or they would have been handed over to Putin for sure.

We already know that Flynn was Trump's (Putin's) bagman, handing over money and instructions to Trump whenever he needed something. I'm sure it went both ways.

wouldn't he automatically have access? I figure there has to be some reason that all those people connected to Putin, Trump, etc have been killed since the election...and figured somebody inside the Trump admin and/or transition team was doing it.

Obama's folks kept some really sensitive items away from the transition team. Once in the WH, there isn't anyone that could keep Trump from bringing along his buddy Mike. There are many levels of clearance and "need to know" is a critical factor for what anyone is supposed to see. If Trump invited Flynn into the SCIF to look at things beyond his clearance level, it's on Trump.

Not knowing the rules for sharing intel or not knowing the clearance restrictions of your colleagues is a violation by the one sharing the info.

Maybe Trump will argue that the Prez can reclassify anything he wants to whether that's his intent or not. Pretty sure anything Flynn saw made it's way to the Kremlin eventually.
